In one of the most surprising moments at WrestleMania 37, the WWE Champion Bobby Lashley defeated Drew McIntyre clean. Most fans believed that McIntyre would regain the WWE Championship at WrestleMania and finally get a crowning moment in front of live fans - something that McIntyre could not have during his past 2 title wins.

Unfortunately for The Scottish Warrior, WWE decided to go ahead with The All-Mighty as the WWE Champion. Dave Meltzer of WOR stated that the reason behind Lashley getting a convincing win over McIntyre at WrestleMania was to close the chapter on the program between the two. He said that The Fiend will likely be Lashley's next challenger:

''So, who is the next big strong babyface, and it's probably going to be The Fiend. So, it's kind of a that's the only direction I can come up with unless they have Lashley go for a rematch, but if they were going to have Lashley go for a rematch, what a sucky finish this was!"
