Under The Ring #3 (WCW Edition) – Awesome Ric Flair Toy, Goldberg, Sting and more

Hulk Hogan

Check out Under The Ring #3! This time we scoured the internet to find amazing artwork featuring some of the greatest names in WCW history. WCW was a legend by itself – a prominent force in sports-entertainment that rivaled WWE and destroyed it in the ratings battle for 80+ straight weeks. The pro-wrestling juggernaut produced some of the most iconic names in the business, before being consumed by its own chaos and finally imploding from within.

Here’s a look at some great pieces of art dedicated towards the most recognizable names in WCW’s illustrious timeline.

Before WCW could defeat WWE, they needed leverage. And no man tipped the scale in WCW’s favor more than the legendary Hulk Hogan, who shocked the world by abandoning WWE and then turning heel! Hogan would eventually become one of the core members of the venomous nWo. (by MrTalent)

Nick And Scott

Ah, the Steiner brothers. If the size of one’s biceps, triceps, and quadriceps were the measure of a superstar’s worth, these genetic freaks would be certified Hall Of Fame icons and 20x World Champions by now. You can’t deny that these siblings were entertaining to watch, and although their in-ring skills may have diminished over time, Scott’s unorthodox promos were pure -and often times unintentional- comedic gold! Rey Mysterio

While it feels like an eternity since he debuted in WWE 10 years ago, the 619 machine was already kicking-ass and leaping off turnbuckles back in WCW way before that. For a crash-course in Rey’s pre-WWE history, watch his matches with another WCW legend, the late great Eddie Guerrero.

Terry Funk

WCW had its crazies. Terry Funk wasn’t one of them. No, Terry Funk made the crazies look like a suburban family on a Sunday picnic. Terry Funk is a hardcore maniac who didn’t have the physique of a wrestler, but physically brought wrestlers to their knees. WCW’s “nasty side” was given its stamp of approval by the lunatic known as Terry Funk! (by Bardsville)

George

You’re probably staring at the pic above and not reading this, but whatever. Like all wrestling promotions, WCW had its fair share of gorgeously strong women, and Gorgeous George was one of its finest. Not only is she beautiful, she’s was also integral to the outcome of matches involving Macho Man Randy Savage during her time as his valet. Savage sure knew his way around the ladies. Robocop

Here’s a special bonus. It’s Robocop! This one’s for all those who know WCW’s history. If you’re going “What the f**k?!” just like everyone else did all those years ago, make sure you YouTube “Robocop WCW” and have your brains explode to the sight of pure random madness.

Ric Flair

Toy photography – when done right – can be truly amazing. This shot of a Ric Flair action figure captures the grandeur that is the 16x World Champion and overall legend of the industry, Nature Boy Ric Flair! Take note, this is a custom figure and isn’t one of Mattel’s. Awesome stuff. (by Batced)

Goldberg

Fear The Spear!! Before there was Ryback, before there was Brock Lesnar, there was Goldberg! A ruthless force of pure destruction, Goldberg would spear his way to the top of WCW’s foodchain, winning championships and annihilating his opponents in the process. He was WCW’s secret weapon in the ratings war, and one of the few rogues who never really allied himself with either side in the nWo faction rivalries.

It’s a shame that WWE didn’t plan Goldberg’s stint a little better from the get-go. If Goldberg had been signed during the first Invasion, things would have been so much better! (by Katarina-Venom)

Booker

The five time (x5) WCW Champion! One of the most loyal personalities on WCW’s roster was Booker T, who at one time was considered their version of The Rock. Things have changed since then, and today Booker T is a respected veteran in WWE and a certified Hall Of Famer. Now can you dig that? (by joshland)

Sting

Some call him the greatest wrestler to ever live, for he has made a name for himself without ever really wrestling for World Wrestling Entertainment. Yet, fans worldwide wish every year that this enigmatic persona will finally sign with Vince McMahon to fulfill what some call the dream match that never happened. If or not Sting finally comes face to face with the legendary Phenom of Death Valley remains to be seen, but his status as a pillar of the business is unquestionable.

Sting stayed loyal to WCW till it’s dying breath, leaving fans with one last great match to remember alongside Ric Flair. As the curtains closed for good on WCW, so did Sting’s time in the major leagues. But “never” is a meaningless word in pro-wrestling, and a time will come when this icon makes his way onto a grand stage once more, to be reborn in front of tens of thousands of frantic fans screaming his name.
