- In other backstage news, Chris Jericho replaced an injured John Cena at last weekend’s WWE live events in California and faced Kevin Owens for the very first time.Chris Jericho came out victorious against the heel Owens following WWE’s predetermined formula that if the top face is not present, the replacement face would come out on top against the heel.
Their first match opened the live event in San Diego and was 25 minutes long. The match opened the show so that Cena fans were prevented from asking for refunds due to him not being present. As reported, the WWE offered refunds for the first 20 minutes as Cena fans wanted to leave owing to his absence. The subsequent shows in Ontario and Fresno were main evented by Jericho and Owens due to top stars not being there as both Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were moved to another tour after they worked the first night in San Diego.
According to reports from the event, the matches received a great reception from the fans in attendance.
