Vince McMahon, one of the most successful and influential businessmen in sports, especially professional wrestling, is the target of Netflix's new docuseries, Mr. McMahon. However, fame and the spotlight always come with scandals and controversies.
Vincent Kennedy McMahon is the son of Victoria, and Vincent James McMahon, a well-known professional wrestling promoter. At an early age, Vince McMahon became interested in the world of wrestling and promotion after accompanying his father at Capitol Wrestling Corporation, which was then changed to World Wide Wrestling Federation, later to World Wrestling Federation, and to its current name, World Wrestling Entertainment.
Vince McMahon graduated from East Carolina University in 1968 with a business degree and landed his first wrestling role the following year as WWWF's All-Star Wrestling's ring announcement. In 1971, he promoted his first wrestling card in Maine. In the following years, Mr. McMahon landed a role as a play-by-play commentator and became more prominent backstage by assisting his father.

In 1980, Vince McMahon founded Titan Sports and bought WWF from his father in 1982, who passed away two years later. The 79-year-old began expanding the company and attracted more audiences due to the storylines and by bringing in pop stars. In 2001, Mr. McMahon further staked his claim in the wrestling business by purchasing his major rivals, WCW and ECW.
Vince McMahon's appearances on WWE television mainly saw him as an authority figure, but he will get involved in a few storylines and matches now and then. In June 2022, he retired from his position as WWE's CEO, with the position going to his daughter, Stephanie McMahon, and Nick Khan.
In January 2023, Vince McMahon returned to WWE's Board of Directors to aid its sale, which was eventually bought by Ari Emanuel of Endeavor. The Stamford-based promotion was later merged with the UFC, forming TKO Group Holdings. In October of that same year, Mr. McMahon was removed from creative power. In January 2024, the 79-year-old announced he had resigned from TKO following another alleged case of sexual misconduct.

Allegations made about Vince McMahon were made as early as 1986, the most notable coming from the company's first female referee, Rita Chatterton. Unfortunately, she was not the only person with a story to tell.
Before Mr. McMahon's retirement in June 2022, he was under investigation by the WWE Board for the alleged hush money he paid for a former paralegal of the company with whom he allegedly had an affair.
In January 2024, Janel Grant, another former employee of WWE, filed a lawsuit against Vince McMahon and former head of talent relations John Laurinaitis, accusing them of sexual misconduct.
