Why now is the best time to turn Cena heel

With WWE considering turning Cena heel, is now the best time to do so?

Changing times - Cena being slowly displaced from the summit

John Cena has enjoyed his time at the top, but his time might be up

John Cena’s role in the company has significantly changed. From being “the guy” in the company to taking a backseat to the younger stars, Cena’s wrestling career is winding down. However, John Cena is still WWE’s biggest star; much like the Hogans, Brets and Austins, his star power won’t get hampered as his WWE career reaches its final stages.

However, what it does give is the degree of freedom necessary for him, and for the company to freshen up his character. Back in ’96, Hogan wasn’t the same star he was in his prime in mid-80s. This gave Bischoff and WCW the opportunity to tweak Hogan’s character, and that did wonders for him, as well as the organisation.

WWE finds itself in a similar position with John. With Rollins, Owens and Styles now taking over the top three spots, Cena can focus on putting the younger guys over, and shake things up by turning heel. Recently, reports have emerged that the WWE creative team is seriously considering turning Cena heel, which could be a win - win situation for both the parties.
