Well, after the Taker/Styles match got scrapped, this match was the one that was rumored to be taking place at the Royal Rumble 2017.

‘The Phenomenal One’ has publically admitted his desire of fighting the ‘Heart Break Kid’ on multiple occasions.

The above picture was posted by Styles, which hinted that WWE might have thought of carrying forward with the matchup.

This was, however, scrapped due to Shawn Michaels’ decision of not coming out of the retirement.

Now that HBK has come out of retirement because of the big paycheck from Saudi Arabia (well, leave the Crown Jewel situation for now), we might see the Taker/Michaels storyline concluding at Survivor Series or Royal Rumble.

As Mania is still a long time away, a heel turn from Styles and a Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber victory for Shawn Michaels would be the perfect way to kick this feud off.

Both Shawn Michaels and AJ Styles are wrestlers who have a similar kind of persona and character, with Styles often being regarded as The Shawn Michaels of the New Era of WWE.

Even though Michaels is way past his prime, he can still shock everyone with an excellent showing against Styles.

A win over Michaels will propel Styles and the WWE title (if it is involved in this feud) to new heights and will work as the perfect retirement match for Shawn Michaels, post his WrestleMania 26 Career v/s Streak match against Undertaker.
