WWE brought back the Wargames on their NXT brand in 2017, after a gap of 20 years. The match involved Sanity, Authors of Pain, and The Undisputed Era. The original Wargames was invented by Dusty Rhodes and was a staple for WCW. The event was an annual one till WCW's closure in 2001.
A Wargames match consists of two or three teams. The original Wargames featured two rings surrounded by a steel cage. Over the years, the match has taken place with multiple iterations of rules and regulations.
WWE recently acquired the trademark for Wargames from Major League Wrestling. Two Wargames matches have taken place in NXT, at NXT TakeOver: Wargames and NXT TakeOver: WarGames (2018). A stage like Wrestlemania is the perfect one to introduce Wargames to the main roster and it can be an annual event going forward at the Grandest Stage Of Them All.
