5 WWE Superstars who should have turned heel before WrestleMania 37 but didn't

The build to WrestleMania 37 and the card has been criticized, but there have been some good character changes in the process. Edge's heel turn was perhaps the most significant, but there have been some missed opportunities on the road to WrestleMania.

This list looks at the heel turns that should have taken place before WrestleMania 37, but didn't. Let's start with a heel turn over five years in the making.

#5. The New Day - Defending the RAW tag team titles at WrestleMania 37

The New Day started in 2014 as a trio of babyfaces, but once that didn't work, they turned heel and spent a year in that role. It was only before WrestleMania 32 that they turned babyface again, and they haven't looked back since.

Not only did The New Day have the longest run as a faction in WWE history (having a near six-year run together), but all three members have spent the last five years as babyfaces without turning.

The only time that there were rumors of a heel turn was in late 2016 when fans began to get tired of their eventual record-breaking reign as Tag Team Champions. Since then, WWE hasn't had any reason to turn them heel.

Looking at WWE's perspective, it makes a lot of sense. Post-babyface turn in 2016, The New Day sold the most merchandise at WrestleMania 32 weekend - proving that WWE's decision was the right one.

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods regained the RAW tag team titles from The Hurt Business and were immediately confronted by AJ Styles and Omos - who challenged them to a match at WrestleMania 37.

While Styles is entertaining as a heel alongside Omos, both his stints on RAW between 2019 and 2021 haven't been as successful. We can understand WWE wanting to go with Kingston and Woods as babyfaces, but a heel turn would have shaken things up at WrestleMania 37.

It would also add an interesting dynamic to their eventual reunion with Big E down the line.

#4. Bianca Belair - Challenging for the SmackDown Women's title at WrestleMania 37

Bianca Belair is the newest superstar who is expected to receive a big coronation at WrestleMania 37. It's easy to forget how recent her debut was. It was at WrestleMania 36 when she came to the aid of The Street Profits, but her actual run had taken time to begin.

She was drafted to SmackDown, and after a feud with Bayley, she went on to become the fourth Women's Royal Rumble winner in 2021 - following Asuka, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte Flair.

She went on to choose Sasha Banks as her opponent for WrestleMania 37, and the two women will face off on Saturday. Banks was the one who turned heel on the road to WrestleMania, and from one perspective, it makes sense.

Sasha Banks is considered to be a better heel than a babyface but had Bianca Belair turned heel, things would have been more interesting. She thrived as a heel on NXT, and it could have kickstarted a good run.

WWE likely wants Belair to have a coronation as a babyface at WrestleMania 37.

#3. Damian Priest - Involved in the celebrity match at WrestleMania 37

Damian Priest is in a big spot for his WrestleMania debut. He only began his official main roster run at the 2021 Men's Royal Rumble match, and he quickly associated with fellow Puerto Rican Bad Bunny.

Bad Bunny is the sole celebrity competing at WrestleMania this year, and there have been rumors of a positive perspective on Bunny. Not only has the celebrity singer had a good, consistent run leading up to WrestleMania, but he has helped give Priest guaranteed TV time in the process.

However, the story would have been a lot more interesting if WWE decided to have Damian Priest turn on Bad Bunny. While we understand the need for having a straightforward and simple celebrity match, there would have been a lot of heat on Priest heading into WrestleMania.

That would, however, change the complexion of the current plan. Bad Bunny and Damian Priest will team up to face The Miz and John Morrison on Night One of WrestleMania 37.

#2. Asuka - Defending the RAW Women's Championship at WrestleMania 37

Asuka seems to be the RAW Women's Champion at WrestleMania due to circumstances outside her control. There was a rumor that WWE planned Lacey Evans vs. Charlotte Flair as the RAW Women's title match at WrestleMania, but the former got pregnant while the latter was removed in a slightly bizarre incident.

After Flair was quietly removed from all WrestleMania advertising, WWE chose to go with Rhea Ripley as Asuka's RAW Women's title opponent. While Ripley might be a last-minute addition to the RAW Women's title picture, it's a good WrestleMania-worthy match-up nonetheless.

Rhea Ripley is the heel in this feud after she showed her true colors on this week's episode of Monday Night RAW, but an Asuka heel turn would have made it more interesting.

Asuka was a heel last WrestleMania, but turned babyface soon after and began to dominate the RAW Women's title scene.

#1. Randy Orton - Faces Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania after four years

Randy Orton's match at WrestleMania is an interesting one. Set to take place on Sunday, it's one of the few long-term feuds on the WrestleMania card. The actual build-up to the match began when they faced off at TLC 2020 in the main event.

After immolating The Fiend, Orton started to get involved with Alexa Bliss - and the rivalry carried on for months. It was only at Fastlane 2021 where The Fiend returned in a new form.

A night later, Bliss pointed to the sign and the match was made official for WrestleMania. While the feud hasn't accelerated since, one can only hope that their match is better than the one they had at WrestleMania 33.

Randy Orton appears to be the babyface in this feud, but WWE has drawn a thin line in this case. It would admittedly be a bit of an inconsequential heel turn, but it would be an interesting and unorthodox dynamic.
