During Fastlane 2019 Nia Jax and Tamina took on Bayley and Sasha Banks for the WWE Women's Tag-Team Titles in somewhat of a David vs Goliath affair, and as has been customary for big women's moments Beth Phoenix was at ringside to provide commentary.
However, Phoenix wasn't just a bystander in the match as she would get involved when Nia Jax and Tamina were giving the retaining champions a sore-loser style beatdown after failing to become new tag-team champions.
When Nia Jax threw Sasha Banks over the announce table, Phoenix was forced to vacate the commentary table and in doing so came face-to-face with Tamina, before the pair came to blows and Jax then ambushed Phoenix from behind.
Jax and Tamina then proceeded to beat down 'The Glamazon' until her former 'Divas of Doom' partner Natalya tried to help, but Natalya got beat down too!
It was a completely unexpected addition to the Women's Tag Team Title match and has some very interesting consequences heading into WrestleMania. But what are some of the reasons why WWE made the decision to do this? Here are five reasons why Tamina and Nia Jax attacked Beth Phoenix.
#5 It maintains Nia Jax and Tamina as top heels in the Women's Tag Team Division
Nia Jax and Tamina are perfect heels for the WWE Women's Tag-Team Division. They're physically imposing, fairly unlikable and they act in despicable ways on a regular basis. This latest act of brutality from the pair is the latest example of these two stopping at nothing to be bad.
Except this time, instead of attacking a fellow Superstar, they attacked a mother of two children, a retired wrestler, a WWE Hall of Famer and a member of commentary and in doing so demolished four of WWE's best women.
#4 It adds a new tag-team into the Women's Tag-Team Division
'The Divas of Doom' were a successful women's tag-team back in the day, but Beth Phoenix would go on to retire and eventually get inducted into the Hall of Fame, but it was clear the pair would've been great in today's 'Women's Revolution' era.
Now Natalya and Beth Phoenix might actually get the chance to show how good they are as a tag-team and now they might even get to win some tag-team belts now that WWE has finally introduced them!
#3 It provided yet another welcome surprise for Fastlane 2019
Fastlane 2019 was certainly a pay-per-view containing many shocks, Randy Orton finally RKO'd Elias, Mustafa Ali was added to the WWE Title match after Kofi Kingston was baited into a handicap match, Shane McMahon turned on the Miez.
And, of course, 'The Glamazon' Beth Phoenix came face to face with Tamina and would eventually come to blows with her until Jax blindsided her from behind and she got beat down.
Fastlane was coming across as a filler PPV, but surprises like Phoenix's involvement with Nia Jax and Tamina made it an exciting affair!
#2 It added another intriguing women's match to WrestleMania
Okay, so it hasn't been confirmed yet, and 'Mania is already looking like it will have a huge card, but after what happened at WWE Fastlane I am more than happy for WWE to find some room for the return of 'The Glamazon' for WrestleMania.
What's more, Phoenix and Natalya Vs. Nia Jax and Tamina is the perfect match on paper. You have two legacy stars in Natalya and Tamina and two absolute female powerhouses in Phoenix and Jax.
#1 It finally gives Nia Jax someone her own size to take on
It's the age old saying 'why don't you take on someone your own size' but for Nia Jax there hasn't been anyone in the WWE who can match her power and stature, other than Tamina, but now they're on the same team.
Reintroducing 'The Glamazon' Beth Phoenix to the mix is a great way to give Nia Jax someone to wrestle against that she won't be used to, someone who can match her every step of the way in terms of physical intimidation.
