WWE broke new ground this year with the cinematic match during WrestleMania and then took it to a brand new level at Money in the Bank, where, for the first time, the match happened inside WWE Headquarters.
Asuka went on to win the Money in the Bank contract and did not have to wait long to cash it in because Becky Lynch relinquished her WWE RAW Women's Championship and took a leave of absence from the company on the basis of motherhood.
The only reason why Asuka is so low on this list is that WWE has not really booked her as a formidable Champion, even delegating her to the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship picture at the tail end of the year.
That said, the current version of Asuka is goofy, hilarious, entertaining, and over-the-top, and yet when the bell rings, she becomes the deadly performer we've come to know and love in WWE.
One hopes that 2021 will be kinder to her than this current year has been.
