What held them together as a Team: They were both on the bad side of WWE CEO Vince McMahon, and were ostensibly both baby faces.

Stone Cold Steve Austin is one of several men to capture the WWE Tag Team titles by himself. In order to keep the belts, he had to pick a partner. Enter Mick Foley, in his Mankind persona, who tried to endear himself to the Rattlesnake.

It went about as well as expected, with Mankind eating a stunner and Austin going on a diatribe about how an 'ugly freak' like Foley would never be his partner.

But Foley had a surprise in store, revealing a new/old persona, Dude Love. Though Austin was still reluctant, he did accept Dude Love long enough for the duo to have some successful title defenses before eventually losing the belts.
