Ambrose challenged for the WWE World Championship in the main-event

The latest WWE SmackDown Live exclusive show took place in Newcastle, England. Headlined by the WWE World Championship match, the event was almost a full-house. The results have been provided below :

#1 The Miz (with Maryse) vs Dolph Ziggler(c) [Intercontinental Championship match]

An awesome encounter to start the show. The fans were really behind Ziggler in this contest.

The moment when he escaped from the Miz's Figure four Leglock, generated one of the biggest pops of the night. Maryse made several attempts to interfere, she even slapped the Champion twice. However, for the third slap, she got ejected from the ringside. Ziggler pinned the Miz after a Superkick.

Result: Dolph Ziggler defeated The Miz to retain the Intercontinental Championship

#2 Heath Slater and Rhyno(c) vs Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) vs The Usos [Triple threat match for the Smackdown Tag team Championship]

Rhyno and Slater received massive pops from the audience. The decent tag team match had some fun spots as well. It can be stated that every participant had their own impressive individual highlights during this match. A gore to Jey Uso made sure that the Champions retained their gold. Also, it’s worth noting that Breezango have been getting quite the push at live events with a string of tag team title opportunities. A good way to utilize the neglected talents.

#3 Curt Hawkins vs Jack Swagger

Before the match, Hawkins cut a promo and asked Swagger to leave the ring. The former World Champion wouldn’t back down and the match officially started. Swagger applied the Patriot Lock on Hawkins and made him submit within 5 seconds. The loses Curt Hawkins is taking for a returning superstar is just shocking, to say the least.

Result: Jack Swagger defeated Curt Hawkins

#4 Naomi and Nikki Bella vs Carmella and Natalya

Once again, there was a pre-match promo, where Carmella bashed the audience for cheering the Bella. Despite being short, the match was entertaining. The ‘babyface’ team won as Nikki pinned Carmella with the Rack Attack.

Result: Nikki Bella and Naomi defeated Natalya and Carmella

#5 Kalisto vs Baron Corbin

Corbin started to viciously attack Kalisto even before the match officially began. Surprisingly, Kalisto was able to make a comeback during the match and dominated over the Lone Wolf. Ultimately, an End of Days on the former United States Champion helped Corbin win the contest.

Results : Baron Corbin defeated Kalisto

#6 American Alpha (Chad Gable and Jason Jordan) and Kane vs Randy Orton, Luke Harper, Bray Wyatt

The match was average, with Harper and the Alphas in action for most of it. Towards the end, Jordon was hit with an RKO from the Viper while Kane choke slammed Harper to pick up the victory for his team.

Result: Kane and American Alpha defeated Luke Harper, Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton

#7 The Hype Bros. (Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley) vs The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor)

It was a typical Hype Bros. match. After a beat down from the Ascension, Ryder finally made the ‘hot tag’ to Mojo, who finished off the contest.

Result: The Hype Bros. defeated The Ascension

#8 Alexa Bliss vs Becky Lynch(c) [Smackdown Women’s Championship match]

The fans rallied behind Lynch throughout the bout. Both the women delivered an amazing match, which was eventually won by Becky. Bliss tapped out to the Dis-Arm-Her. The two are again set to collide on this week’s edition of Smackdown for the Championship.

Result: Becky Lynch retained the Championship over Alexa Bliss

#9 AJ Styles(c) vs Dean Ambrose [WWE World Championship match]

An incredible performance as the main-event of the night. The audience were vocal for both of the competitors. Towards the end, Styles shoved Ambrose into an already exposed turnbuckle and rolled him up to get the pinfall.

Result: AJ Styles defeated Dean Ambrose to retain the WWE World Championship

After the match ended, Styles continued the beat down but soon Ambrose counter-attacked. A Dirty Deeds to the Champion was the closing moment of the event.

Points to Note :

– Styles vs Ambrose stole the show, yet again.

– In the women’s tag team match, Nikki's performance was really impressive.
