The SmackDown brand rolled out their latest live event in Dayton, Ohio and it was quite an eventful one. There were two title matches and a host of other bouts that kept the fans on the edge pf their seats. So without further adieu, here are the results and highlights from the house show:
#1 Rhyno vs Heath Slater vs Breezango
The former SmackDown Tag Team Champions Heath Slater & Rhyno went over Breezango.
Result: Heath Slater & Rhyno defeated Breezango
#2 Baron Corbin vs Kalisto
This was said to be an extremely entertaining bout in which Baron Corbin beat the Lucha Dragon with the End Of Days. After the match, Curt Hawkins came out to challenge Kalisto, who was still down on the ground.
Result: Baron Corbin defeated Kalisto
#3 Kalisto vs Curt Hawkins
Kalisto instantly got a roll-up pin on Curt Hawkins, ending the match in about 4 seconds. A fan in attendance stated that it took far longer for Curt Hawkins to even get to the ring.
Result: Kalisto defeated Curt Hawkins
#4 Mojo Rawley & Jack Swagger vs The Vaudevillains
The babyface team unsurprisingly went over The Vaudevillains.
Result: Mojo Rawley & Jack Swagger defeated The Vaudevillains
#5 American Alpha vs The Ascension & The Wyatt Family(Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper) – SmackDown Tag Team Championship
This was one of the best matches of the night which also saw a different side to Luke Harper. Harper started posing like Hulk Hogan to mock The Ascension. It should be noted that Randy Orton was not present in the house show.
It seemed as though WWE were testing the waters for a possible Luke Harper face run. He reportedly also threw his t-shirt to a kid in the front row. American Alpha ended up winning the match. The crowd was blown away by the Alpha’s performance.
Result: American Alpha defeated The Ascension & The Wyatt Family to retain the SmackDown Tag Team Championship
#6 Becky Lynch & Naomi vs Alexa Bliss & Carmella
James Ellsworth escorted Carmella to the ring and was by her her side for the rest of the match. Becky Lynch and Naomi got the victory in this one.
Result: Becky Lynch & Naomi defeated Alexa Bliss & Carmella
#7 The Miz vs Apollo Crews
This encounter was said to be a very tight one. Before the match started, The Miz demanded that the announcer sang “Happy Birthday” to Maryse, as it was her actual birthday the previous day.
The match began shortly thereafter. The Miz pulled off a victory after an interference from Maryse but it was said that he just managed to go over. The Miz got huge heat from the crowd.
Result: The Miz defeated Apollo Crews
#8 Dean Ambrose vs AJ Styles – Intercontinental Championship
The main event of the evening saw Dean Ambrose defend the Intercontinental Championship against WWE Champion AJ Styles. Ambrose was extremely over, getting the best reaction of the night especially since he is an Ohio native. At the end, Dean Ambrose went over AJ Styles clean with the Dirty Deeds.
Result: Dean Ambrose defeated AJ Styles to retain the Intercontinental Championship
Ambrose won and sent the crowd home happy.
