WWE Monday Night Raw Preview: 23rd January, 2017

Goldberg is set to return

The last episode of Monday Night Raw before Royal Rumble is all set to be rolled out by WWE.

Considering what went down last week, there will be a lot to look forward to this time around. Brock Lesnar made his return to the show last time around and made a big statement by taking out the competition that crossed his path.

The six-man tag team match that headlined the show also proved to be a talking point as the end saw Kevin Owens stand tall.

This time around, some questions will probably be answered and WWE will also make their last minute decorations ahead of Royal Rumble. In the slides that follow, we are going to look at the possible segments we could see.

#5 More Royal Rumble entrants?

Will we get some surprise announcements this week?

With this being the last episode of Monday Night Raw before Royal Rumble, WWE could pull off some big surprises at the show.

The Royal Rumble match still has many slots to fill and announcing some names would make matters more interesting. With some huge star power already in the match, bringing in a box office name wouldn’t be needed but WWE could give some chances to the young blood on the roster.

Announcing spots for NXT roster Superstars would also end up being a welcome move as it would help them showcase their talent on a grand stage. A veteran name from the older eras would also be a good booking decision.

#4 Pushing the Women’s feud

WWE needs to push the feud

The Raw Women’s championship will be on the line at Royal Rumble when Charlotte and Bayley go head to head.

Unlike the recent battles that Charlotte has had with Sasha Banks, the match with Bayley does not have any historic significance and thus, WWE should put in an extra effort to push the match.

The Bayley – Charlotte feud has not been getting the same attention as the Charlotte – Sasha feud due to all the star power associated with Royal Rumble and with just one more opportunity to push the feud ahead of the match, WWE is likely to make good use of it this week.

#3 Cruiserweight chaos

Neville is set to challenge for gold

The Cruiserweight division is currently represented by two major storylines. Neville and Rich Swann are battling it out for the title and they will have their title match at the Royal Rumble this Sunday night.

This is the feud under the spotlight for the division since the return of Neville has been very crucial for everyone involved.

Secondly, the dilemma of Alicia Fox has been brought in perfectly into the division. Making use of known names to tell stories in the division has been working well so far and we could expect these two storylines to be pushed forward this week on Raw.

#2 The Kevin Owens show

Owens has been on a good run lately

Kevin Owens has been getting a strong booking for some time now. The reigning Universal champion got the better of Roman Reigns for two weeks in a row and on both occasions, he seemed destructive.

This was one of the reasons why Owens was a force to reckon with down in NXT and this was also the way that WWE should’ve booked him when he won the Universal championship.

Owens is looking good ahead of his title defence against Reigns and this is encouraging and scary at the same time.

Getting a win over a strong Owens would make Reigns look better and if this was WWE’s plan all the way, then the current good booking that Owens is getting makes complete sense.

#1 Goldberg returns

Goldberg is set to return

Last week, Brock Lesnar made his return to WWE programming and made an immediate impact.

This time around, WWE will be looking to draw the ratings with another big part-timer. Goldberg is announced for the show and he is probably going to get a booking similar to that of Lesnar on the show.

Goldberg crossing paths with the young talent on the roster would be an exciting prospect as always. WWE will be aware of this factor and as they need some big headlines ahead of Royal Rumble, expect the creative team to explore risky booking decisions.

Either way, Raw will have to come up with some major booking decisions if they are to outclass SmackDown which is bound to be exciting after what happened last week.
