Money in the Bank kicked off a new era for the company as the first WWE pay-per-view since March 2020 to welcome a capacity crowd. The ThunderDome era has now come to a close and Mr and Miss Money in the Bank have officially been crowned.
The WWE Money in the Bank ladder match has become notorious for botches over the years and last night was no exception. When eight superstars are put in the ring with ladders, there is always a lot of room for error.
It could be put down to the nerves of the return of the WWE Universe, or just bad luck on behalf of several of these superstars. Whatever the explanation, Money in the Bank was riddled with botches.
Here are just five botches that the WWE Universe may have missed amongst the excitement of the show.
#5. Omos isn't quite as strong as WWE has claimed
AJ Styles and Omos were successful in their first pay-per-view defense of the RAW Tag Team Championships at Money in the Bank. The duo showed that they can work cohesively as a unit whilst Omos showed signs of improvement in the ring. He was part of much more of the action than he has been in recent weeks.
Omos was in the ring with three men who had a wealth of experience between them and they were able to make the newcomer look exceptional. The finish of the match was the only time when Omos' WWE inexperience was shown. Erik ran and jumped for him to deliver his Chokebomb finish, but Omos wasn't able to lift him at the same time.
Erik was then forced to jump again so that the move could be successfully pulled off. Not only did this show that Omos isn't quite there yet when it comes to his in-ring work, it made it appear as though he struggled to lift Erik up.
After Omos lifted all 330 pounds of Ivar earlier in the match, it wouldn't make sense for him to struggle to lift Erik. The positive here is that Omos showed signs of in-ring improvement and is still considered to be a work in progress.
#4. John Morrison completely misses his target at WWE Money in the Bank
The Men's Money in the Bank ladder match was full of crazy spots. These spots have become an expected part of the match for the WWE Universe in recent years and the men definitely didn't disappoint.
Kevin Owens took several impressive bumps on the ladder before he was power-bombed through a ladder at ringside. Ricochet also showed why he's become a fan favorite with some of his offense.
John Morrison was also in the heat of the action throughout the match but, whilst working against Drew McIntyre, he wasn't able to fully hit the target. The former ECW Champion delivered a side flip off the top rope which turned into an elbow drop. McIntyre was forced to sell it but there was no contact.
It appeared as though Morrison actually hurt his own arm on the ladder on the way down, since he didn't flip far enough across to reach Drew. This wasn't the only botch in the WWE Men's Money in the Bank ladder match, but it was the one that was the cleanest cut.
#3. Zelina Vega is seemingly taken out by air at WWE Money in the Bank
Zelina Vega made her return to WWE a few weeks ago and was inserted into the Money in the Bank ladder match.
Vega put up quite a good fight when it came to lifting the briefcase, but Alexa Bliss was able to thwart her plans when she hypnotized her to walk back down.
In the end, it was Nikki A.S.H who came out on top. Earlier in the match, A.S.H delivered a crossbody from the top of a ladder and looked to take out the field of WWE women.
Vega was on the outside of the group of women when A.S.H delivered her crossbody and wasn't actually touched at all. Regardless, she had to find a reason to fall down with the rest of the pack.
The camera was just behind Vega which meant that it picked up the fact that she fell on the mat from no contact at all. A.S.H's crossbody also looked like it was a little bit of a botch when she started to turn in mid-air.
#2. Rhea Ripley struggled to lift Charlotte Flair at WWE Money in the Bank
Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair stole the show at WWE's Money in the Bank pay-per-view last night. The Queen walked out as a 14-time Women's Champion.
The two women were able to turn the crowd around from the opening exchanges where the returning WWE Universe were chanting "We Want Becky." The chants were later replaced by "This is Awesome" as Flair and Ripley pushed on and were able to put on their own show.
Despite the fact that Ripley and Flair had the best match of the night, there were still some awkward moments throughout. One of these came when Ripley was looking to deliver a suplex to Flair but struggled to lift her up.
Ripley was able to deliver the move after a slight wobble. However, the fact that she struggled to lift The Queen took away from how impressive the move could have been.
#1. Roman Reigns kicked out despite the WWE official not beginning the count
Roman Reigns' Universal Championship match against Edge was the main event of WWE's Money in the Bank pay-per-view. The reason for this was obviously because of the return of John Cena, but also because this was one of the strongest storylines of the night.
Edge was unable to capture the Universal Championship because of Seth Rollins. This has now set up a match between the two men at SummerSlam. The Mysterios also prevented interference from The Usos to potentially set up a rematch for their tag team titles.
John Cena's timely WWE return means that he will now challenge for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam as well. Whilst 'The Biggest Party of the Summer' is seemingly coming together, there were some parts that didn't go according to plan.
After Edge delivered a spear to Reigns in the center of the ring, there was no WWE official to count the three, but Roman was seemingly unaware. The champion kicked out at two before the official jumped into the ring and had to be pushed back down to the mat by Edge so that the count could actually happen.
