Will Finn Balor shock the WWE Universe this year?

Hartford, Connecticut, will be the center of one of WWE’s biggest pay-per-views of the year, as fans will get to watch one of their favorite match types at the event.

Money in the Bank has many regular and championship matches scheduled but is different from other events thanks to the Money in the Bank ladder match. The winner gets a briefcase which contains a contract that guarantees the winner a match for a world championship at any time within the next year.

With the stakes extremely high for the event, we are usually treated with many surprises throughout the night, which makes the event even more memorable.

Last year’s biggest surprise saw Alexa Bliss win the women’s version of the MITB ladder match and go on to cash in her briefcase on the same night against Raw Women’s Champion, Nia Jax, to win the title.

With that said, we will take a look at 4 surprises that need to happen at this year’s event to make it even more memorable.

#4 Seth Rollins vs AJ Styles ends in a no contest

Seth Rollins has found a brand new challenger for the Universal Championship. AJ Styles was drafted to Raw from SmackDown Live and has since been in pursuit of Rollins’ title.

AJ Styles surprised everyone by rising to the top of Raw so soon after winning a tournament to crown the number one contender for the title at Money in the Bank.

While we have seen the two men go from friends to bitter enemies in the past couple of weeks, we have been expecting one of them to turn heel in the battle of the babyfaces. At this point, it seems as though Styles will be the one who turns full heel either before or during the matchup.

Keeping in mind that this will be Styles’ first major match on Raw, we can expect that WWE would not want to end the match cleanly so both superstars are protected and Rollins does not lose his title.

Will a superstar like Drew McIntyre interfere to start a new rivalry between himself and Styles, or will one of the superstars deliver a low blow to end the match? We will have to wait and find out.

#3 Lars Sullivan makes his way into the ladder match

For weeks we have been watching Lars Sullivan make surprise appearances to terrorize the other superstars in WWE. While he started off by making appearances on both brands, he was soon drafted to SmackDown Live. Now he has the option of making appearances on Raw again thanks to Vince's new wild card rule.

One thing Lars has not done since showing up on the main roster is to have a match inside the ring. While fans are eagerly waiting for him to compete against their favorite superstars, we expect him to only have a grand match to kick things off.

With a huge possibility of receiving a major push, Lars could find his way into the Money in the Bank ladder match for a chance to win the championship contract briefcase. He could do so by taking out a superstar before the match, such as Baron Corbin or Ali, and taking to the ring himself.

Whether he will win the briefcase or not is another story, but entering such a match could make things extremely interesting.

#2 Elias defeats Roman Reigns

During the second night of the Superstar Shake-up, Vince personally took to the ring to announce the biggest acquisition in SmackDown’s history. While fans were certain that it would be The Big Dog who’d be announced as the newest member of SmackDown, Vince announced Elias as the greatest acquisition.

This did not work well with Roman Reigns, who made his way out to the ring and flattened both Vince and Elias.

Since then, Reigns has been engaged in a rivalry with Shane McMahon and Elias. Elias challenged Reigns to a match at MITB, which Reigns quickly accepted.

Elias hasn’t had the most success in matches, especially at pay-per-views, and therefore it would be interesting if Elias manages to pull off a victory against one of WWE’s biggest superstars. Elias could use his heelish tactics to do so, establishing himself as a major villain on SmackDown, and also make this rivalry more interesting.

#1 Lacey Evans defeats Becky Lynch

Lacey Evans arrived on the scene as part of a few NXT call-ups, and immediately found her way to the top due to a push she received from the creative.

She is now in line for an opportunity to win the Raw Women’s Championship so early in her main roster career. With Becky Lynch scheduled to defend both her titles on the same night, things could possibly become easier for Lacey Evans.

Even though we have not really seen how good Evans is in and out of the ring on the main roster, WWE will be looking to take one title off Becky during the MITB event so that she can focus on one brand and one title.

Becky’s other match is against Charlotte for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, and the two familiar foes will definitely have the better match of the night. However, since Becky is assigned to SmackDown Live, it would make more sense for her to keep the SmackDown title and lose the Raw Championship to Evans who is assigned to Raw.

This would be a major surprise for the fans and also gives other women on Raw a chance to challenge for the title going forward.
