WWE News: AJ Lee says Bayley is continuing her legacy

Lee’s book went on sale on April 4th, 2017

What’s the story?

While on a promotional tour to promote her biography Crazy Is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules, AJ Lee told fans at an autograph signing that Bayley is continuing her legacy in the WWE. Lee’s book went on sale on April 4th, 2017.

In case you missed it...

AJ Lee is a retired WWE Superstar and wife of WWE legend CM Punk. She is a three-time WWE Divas champion, a former Raw General Manager, and Slammy Award winner for Diva of the Year.

AJ Lee has had storied rivalries with Paige, and the cast of Total Divas. In addition to being an accomplished in-ring worker, Lee is also known for her storyline work with main event draws like John Cena, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, and Dolph Ziggler.

In 2015, five days after teaming with Paige to defeat the Bella Twins at WrestleMania 31, Lee retired from competition and the WWE.

The heart of the matter

AJ Lee released her biography this week and has embarked on a media tour to promote it. The tour includes book signings and Q&A sessions with fans. While answering a fan question, AJ spoke about how much she loves Bayley and that she feels like the Hugger is continuing her legacy. You can watch the video below:

The impact

AJ Lee undoubtedly paved the way for the women’s revolution in the WWE. It was her tweet to Stephanie McMahon comparing male to female wages in the company that was the silent catalyst.

Whether the WWE wants to admit it or not, AJ’s body of work with top level stars like John Cena, proved that women can be draws for the company. Without her, stars like Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, and Bayley would never have been given the opportunity to shine like they have.

Author’s take

AJ will go down in history as one of the most important female performers that the WWE has ever had. She found the path that the today’s top female stars walk down. In an era where women’s matches were watered down and involved more models than wrestlers, AJ Lee flourished.

She made the division watchable. It’s almost as if she was ahead of her time. When you look at her body of work with the company, it would have mirrored up nicely with how the WWE presents its women’s division today.

My hope is that she will return one day. When she does return, her feuds with Charlotte, Sasha, and Bayley will immediately be top draws and must-see TV for the WWE. Finally, for better or worse, AJ and CM Punk are forever attached together in sports entertainment lore.
