WWE News: Austin Aries injury update

Austin Aries took to Twitter and gave us an update on his injury

Former TNA and ROH Champion Austin Aries, who is currently signed to NXT, suffered a terrifying injury last month, that almost left him blinded. As a result of the same, Aries had to pull out of the Dusty Rhodes Classic Tournament, where he was partnered with former ROH Champion Roderick Strong; and also, unfortunately, missed out on NXT Takeover: Toronto.

Since his injury, wrestling fans from around the world have been wondering about Aries’ condition. Austin Aries finally broke his silence about his status by taking to Twitter, and posting an alarming update:

This terrifying X-Ray accompanied Aries’ tweet

The tweet hinted at the fact that Austin Aries would need permanent titanium plates. Fans have been speculating about the duration that he would be away from the ring, ever since Aries suffered his injury. The severity of his injury means that Austin Aries is out at least until the end of 2016, and maybe a significant part of 2017 also.

Austin Aries broke his orbital bone because of a mistimed kick from former NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura, at a live event in Fresno. It happened during a tag team match, where Aries had teamed up with current NXT Champion Samoa Joe, to take on Nakamura and No Way Jose. The match had to be stopped because of Nakamura’ vicious kick.

Unfortunately, before Nakamura could gauge the extent of damage he had caused, he flipped Aries over and slammed him onto the mat, aggravating Austin Aries’ injury in the process. The referee had to throw up the X sign, which indicates a legitimate injury before the match could be stopped for good.

The kick that took Aries out

Known as the ‘King of Strong Style’ Shinsuke Nakamura has an MMA background and is known for incorporating elements from martial arts even in professional wrestling. Other competitors too, have been a victim of his stiff style, namely NXT Champion Samoa Joe who suffered a dislocated jaw, as a result of the Kinshasa Knee Strike, at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn.

As charismatic as Nakamura is, many have criticised his hard hitting offensive style.

Austin Aries came into NXT with much fanfare but has been unable to find his footing and make his mark, unlike other indie stars. We hope Aries recovers soon and finds his momentum soon after.
