What's the story?

Baron Corbin was recently a guest at the All Things Wrestling Radio show, where he talked about a variety of topics including his MITB cash-in and when he got to know about it.

In case you didn't know...

Baron Corbin, also known as The Lonewolf is a former US Champion and won the 3rd Andre the giant battle royal at Wrestlemania two years back, which was also his main roster debut.

Baron won the MITB briefcase in 2017 and was unsuccessful in cashing it on then Champion Jinder Mahal on the August 15 edition of Smackdown. He got distracted by John Cena at ringside which led to Mahal rolling him up for a pin.

The Lonewolf had an impressive showing at the Fastlane PPV where he was part of the 6-pack challenge for the WWE Championship, although he could not pick up the win. As a result, Corbin currently finds himself without an opponent for WrestleMania this year.

The heart of the matter

In his interview with All Things Radio, Corbin stated that the idea of him cashing in his MITB contract on Jinder Mahal was a last minute booking decision which he found out only an hour before Smackdown went on air.

Here is an excerpt of what he said: (Credit: WrestlingInc)

"We discussed, and then they made a decision that was gonna be the night. It didn't work out, but, yeah it was definitely about an hour before. I mean, it's the fun part of this business. You never know what your day is gonna hold. Some things could be very, very last minute. It could be at that very last second. So, it's pretty wild, and it keeps you on your toes. That's for sure."

What's next?

Corbin currently is not involved in any feud and doesn't have a match for Wrestlemania. It is very much possible that he will be a participant in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at this 'Mania.

Author's take

Baron Corbin not cashing in the MITB successfully was the right call in my opinion. Corbin was not ready at that point in time to hold the WWE Championship. But I'm positive he will get more opportunities in the future.
