Edge's untimely injury denied the fans of a memorable reunion.

What's the story?

Don't we all love reunions? It's a different feeling to see former tag team partners join forces again and more so when they are as iconic as Edge and Christian.

Sadly for the fans, the reunion never took place after the legendary duo split back in 2001, however, it was in the works before it got nixed, as revealed by Christian during a recent interview with WrestleTalk's Luke Owen.

In case you didn't know...

Edge and Christian are rightfully regarded as one of the greatest Tag Teams in WWE history alongside The Dudley Boyz and The Hardy Boyz. The long-time friends have won the WWE Tag Team titles on seven different occasions in addition to winning the world titles as well during their respective solo stints.

The TLC match from WrestleMania X-Seven was way ahead of its time and cemented the aforementioned tag teams as bonafide pioneers. While the Dudley and Hardy Boyz have both rekindled their alliances from time to time, Edge and Christian didn't get a proper opportunity of having one final run as a team due to an unfortunate incident.

The heart of the matter

In an exclusive interview with Luke Owen in WrestleTalk's WrestleRamble, Christian opened up about the nixed reunion plans from 2011. If you remember correctly, the WWE veterans had briefly gotten back together in 2011 but Edge's unfortunate retirement ended all hope of seeing a sustained run.

Christian divulged that Edge was supposed to drop the title to Del Rio that year before embarking on a tag team angle with his old friend before the eventual split happened.

He said, “I think the plan was at the time for Edge to lose the title to Del Rio and then he and I would rekindle our tag team and go on a run with that and eventually split off and feud.”

What's next?

Edge and Christian are still working together as they host the Pod of Awesomeness podcast which frequently features some of the top names from the pro wrestling industry. We highly recommend it if you haven't checked it out yet.
