WWE News: Chris Jericho says he got the Styles Clash unbanned

Jericho is a WWE legend

Chris Jericho and AJ Styles are both having arguably the greatest years of their career in WWE. Chris Jericho came back as a babyface, but after he turned heel in February, he reinvented himself to a new level. His current “Stupid Idiot” persona and pairing with Kevin Owens has made him one of the fan favourites in WWE right now. It is practically impossible to boo Jericho just because of how organically humorous he is.

What can be said about AJ Styles that has not been said before? He has taken the WWE by storm, and it would be unbelievable to say last year that Styles would not only come to WWE but would be the World Champion of the company within less than 9 months of his arrival. Styles first WWE feud was with Chris Jericho, and the two worked a program from the Raw after Royal Rumble up till Wrestlemania. The feud between the two ended the next night on Raw after Styles pinned Y2J to become the Number 1 contender to the WWE World Championship. When Styles came into WWE, there was worry and speculation that WWE would not be allowing the Styles Clash finisher due to the possible danger of it. This speculation was also based on the fact that Seth Rollins’ finisher, the “Curb Stomp” was banned by WWE despite not having injured a single person before.

However, after Styles hit the Styles Clash on Curtis Axel on his first Smackdown appearance, things were cleared. Since Jericho was his first feud in WWE, Y2J told Chael Sonnen on his podcast “You’re Welcome” that while the Styles Clash move was initially banned by the WWE in the beginning, Jericho had a hand in having the move allowed. Here is what he had to say:

“It’s a cool feeling whenever you see guys that have worked long and hard to kind of achieve their goal, and obviously AJ coming in was a no-brainer. My favourite thing about AJ was that it started basically with me. I kind of helped him cut his teeth in the WWE, helped him get his finish unbanned.

I mean the Styles Clash was banned when he first came in and I kind of helped him unlock that so he could start using it, so all of that stuff, I kind of take an extra special pride in seeing him.”

How sad will you be when Jericho leaves WWE this time around?
