Lesnar's match with Randy Orton almost sparked a huge backstage fight with Chris Jericho in 2016.
Lesnar's match with Randy Orton almost sparked a huge backstage fight with Chris Jericho in 2016.

What's the story?

Back at SummerSlam in 2016, Brock Lesnar used elbows to cause Randy Orton to bleed after their match.

After the match, Chris Jericho was livid backstage and almost came to blows with 'the Beast'. Fightful.com carried a transcript of his interview with Sam Roberts and Jim Norton's radio show that he would have bitten Lesnar's nose off had they engaged in a fight.

In case you missed it...

WWE had just restarted the brand split and a marquee match at SummerSlam in 2016 was Lesnar vs. Orton since the Universal Championship had just been created.

Post-match, Lesnar continued to attack 'the Apex Predator', using elbows to open up a wound on 'the Viper's' head. It infuriated Jericho backstage, but they have apparently worked out their issues with each other.

The heart of the matter

Jericho is close with Orton and the idea of Lesnar cutting Orton's forehead was seen as adding a little more reality to the WWE during the PG Era.

Even though it was the plan for the match, Jericho took exception and felt that Lesnar took things too far.

He recounted his showdown with Lesnar backstage after the incident, stating on Sam Roberts and Jim Norton's radio show that biting off Lesnar's nose was certainly on the table had 'the Beast' and Jericho come to blows.

“Yeah he did some stuff that I felt he shouldn’t have done and no one would tell me if it was supposed to happen or not and then he started yelling at me -- I was like, ‘F*ck this guy’. I started yelling back. I remember I was face-to-face with him and I just remember looking at him [and thinking], ‘He’s got the biggest, ugliest nose’. Like this f*cking giant nose, and I’m like, if he does anything, I’m just gonna bite his nose off." Jericho said. "He’s gonna kill me either way, so he’s gonna kill me with no nose. I don’t care.”

Knowing Lesnar's background in MMA was definitely on Jericho's mind, so he figured he'd try to get in a shot regardless of knowing that he would likely come up short in a scrap with the Beast.

What's next?

Jericho appears to be one of the bigger stars to help get All Elite Wresting off the ground. He still wants to have a fight with Lesnar while he's still in wrestling shape.

With the Beast finally dropping the Universal Championship to Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 35, there is a possibility of Lesnar showing up some time in AEW. He does have some unfinished business in the UFC, however, so Jericho will likely have to wait a while.

His match with Kenny Omega at Double or Nothing will have to sate his appetite until Lesnar makes his next move.
