What’s the story?

While recently speaking with The Cult of Whatever, WWE veteran Chris Jericho shared his thoughts on his memorable Monday Night Raw debut from the year 1999.

In case you didn’t know…

Chris Jericho’s WWE debut remains as one of the most memorable debuts in the promotion's history. It was during an episode of Monday Night Raw in Chicago, Illinois, in the year 1999, when Chris Jericho first made his WWE debut after he interrupted The Rock who was in the ring busy cutting a promo on The Big Show.

Upon his arrival to the WWE, Jericho proclaimed that "Raw Is Jericho" and that he had "come to save the World Wrestling Federation", referring to himself as "Y2J".

The heart of the matter

During Jericho’s chat with The Cult of Whatever, the former nine-time WWE Intercontinental Champion stated that his WWE debut definitely remains as one of the best debuts ever in the company’s history.

Also, according to Y2J, he was also the mastermind behind the countdown clock that he had used during his debut and apparently, it was Vince McMahon who decided to end the clock right in the middle of The Rock’s promo.

The former WWE Undisputed Champion also claimed that the reaction that he initially received during his debut, is probably the biggest crowd reaction Y2J had ever got. Lastly, Jericho also added that the WWE was almost a different world during the attitude era because the internet wasn’t like it is today.

“I think that is the biggest reaction I had ever got, a lot of people knew it was going to me but there were also a lot of people that didn't have a clue.”- Chris Jericho stated.

What’s next?

Chris Jericho’s next WWE appearance is scheduled for the upcoming Raw 25th Anniversary special episode, which takes place later this week. Jericho, who also made his return to New Japan Pro Wrestling earlier this year, is bound to return to NJPW once again later in the year in order to progress with his feud against LIJ leader Tetsuya Naito, who was attacked by Y2J at this year’s NJPW: New Year’s Dash event.

Author’s Take

There is certainly no doubt that Chris Jericho’s influence in WWE and the entire pro wrestling world has been massive. Jericho has been one of the veterans of this business and keeps on elevating himself to the next level, every time he steps into the squared circle.
