What’s the story?

Earlier this week, the wrestling world was whipped into a frenzy when it was reported that Dean Ambrose would be leaving WWE when his contract expires in April, with WWE confirming the news.

One man who seems poised to follow the former WWE Champion out of the company is Dolph Ziggler - and The Show-Off has now had his say.

In case you didn’t know…

At the Royal Rumble, Ambrose spent a surprisingly short time on our screens when he was eliminated quickly from the Royal Rumble Match - a match won by the man he's recently been feuding with and the man he interrupted on RAW, former SHIELD brother Seth Rollins.

On the following night, RAW opened with Seth Rollins cutting a promo about his win, before Triple H made his way to the ring to congratulate him - before they were followed by a disgruntled Dean Ambrose. A match was then made where Rollins bested his former best friend before Dean grabbed a chair - only to be confronted by the woman whose time he was eating up. It was confirmed shortly after that Ambrose would be leaving WWE.

The heart of the matter

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Dolph Ziggler opened up about his reaction to Ambrose leaving WWE.

It was very surprising to me. I don't know too many people who are too close to him that would have any insight. I wouldn't want to guess anything.

The former Intercontinental Champion also went on to speak about Ambrose as a person, and his relationship with the man behind the Lunatic character.

I didn't see that coming. He's always got something going on and is always in a prominent role, doing something great and he's liked by the fans. He could just try to move on and do some other stuff. I can understand. It's hard to read him sometimes. He's a ridiculously nice guy and loves the business. Definitely does his own thing. Kind of in his own world a lot.

Ziggler rounded it off by hinting that a move away from WWE may be perfect for Ambrose.

I'm friends with his wife (Renee Young) and we talk all the time. But Dean and I, if we're putting a match together, we talk, but otherwise....really friendly guy, loves wrestling, loves having a good time but definitely does his own thing. Maybe he's looking to do his own thing some more.
