In an interview with NBC Sports, Dolph Ziggler opened up on his career’s downward spiral.
Expounding on the downside he’s experienced in his WWE career as of late, Ziggler asserted that it was a considerably gradual process. Besides, ‘The Showoff’ added that his meta-type character mocking the over-the-top entrances of a few Superstars is simply serving as a means of breaking the fourth wall in the pro-wrestling business.

Dolph Ziggler is a former World Heavyweight Champion, who has lately been relegated to the lower-tier of the WWE.
Ziggler has been quite vocal about the adverse effects of his booking and the opportunities he’s received in WWE as of late and has also been hinting at leaving the WWE.
The heart of the matter
Dolph Ziggler opened up on his downward spiral; stating —
"It was very gradual. It went from 'Wow, we have something special here with Dolph. The crowd is feeding off of him whether he's a good guy or a bad guy.' But after a while, a really good match here and there or a special moment here and there is not enough to create a star. So after a big match and then just going back to being Dolph, it's hard to not be Dolph…I've been very lucky in that I've been able to make the most out of those situations.”
Furthermore, pertaining to his recent meta-type persona, wherein he’s seen mocking fellow WWE Superstars’ over-the-top entrances and gaudy wrestling gear, Ziggler explained that the sport and WWE have now entered the reality era where performers and organizations often break the fourth wall. However, he added that too much of an insight into the proceedings in the business isn’t healthy for the sport.
Additionally, Ziggler jested that a couple of things he’d like to change in his current WWE character is probably being 3 inches taller so he’d be perceived as championship material, and perhaps sport an ‘80s metal hairstyle. The Showoff added that he loves to be the character which goes out there with disdain for the fans; insinuating that today’s fans are indeed hypocrites.

Dolph Ziggler has alluded on multiple occasions that he intends to leave the WWE sooner rather than later.
The former World Champion, who enjoys a decent following among fans, is believed by many experts to be in the last stages of his WWE career.

Should Dolph Ziggler leave the WWE, it’d be a sad day indeed.
The man is truly talented and criminally underappreciated. However, it seems as though he isn’t too happy with his current role in the WWE, and perhaps he could find happiness and success elsewhere. Maybe, he could take a hiatus from the WWE, and return with renewed vigour, just as the likes of Jinder Mahal and Drew McIntyre did.
