What's the story?

With the last stop for Raw superstars taking place tonight in Washington, D.C., everyone will look to make one final mark before their matches at WrestleMania 35.

Before suiting up for tonight's show, Drew McIntyre appeared on ABC 7 WJLA to help hype tonight's show.

He spoke about feeling that WWE invested faith in him by having him face the Big Dog at WrestleMania 35. Fightful.com carried a transcript of the interview.

In case you missed it . . .

McIntyre has been tearing through the faces on Raw ever since returning to the WWE main roster 10 months ago.

He has been targeting complacent superstars and has singled out members of the Shield over the last few months. This led to him challenging Roman Reigns for a match at WrestleMania 35 so he can finally 'extinguish' the Shield.

The heart of the matter

Before Reigns even returned from his bout with Leukemia, the jury was out regarding just what would be McIntyre's role at the Show of Shows.

But once the Big Dog returned, McIntyre, Baron Corbin and Bobby Lashley have been feuding with the Shield and McIntyre has attacked each member on different episodes of Raw.

He defeated Dean Ambrose in a Falls Count Anywhere match one week and in a Last Man Standing match last week.

It's all leading up to his big match against Reigns this coming Sunday, and McIntyre expressed enthusiasm for his spot on the Grandest Stage of Them All despite not being in a title match.

“It’s wild. I’ve been back on Monday Night RAW for ten months now and fighting Roman Reigns, the number one guy, returning from his illness in his first big singles match at WrestleMania. It’s pretty incredible. It’s a great opportunity -- a show of faith by the company in my ability now and I’m very, very excited to give the world a performance they won’t forget.”

McIntyre has been booked as one of the top heels in the sporadic absence of Brock Lesnar on Raw and his targets have been representative of that fact.

What's next?

A showdown on tonight's Raw is likely to happen with it being the 'go home' show before 'Mania. Although he will likely lose to Reigns, it does show some faith in the Scottish Psychopath from management putting him with the golden boy at 'Mania.

Reigns doesn't lose many matches due to his protection from booking as they do not like their top faces to drop many contests.

It might behove them to give the win to McIntyre, however, in order to truly paint him as a legit contender to the Universal Championship should Lesnar retain or Rollins win the title (hopefully).
