What's The Story?

The former NXT Champion may have to wait a while before he moves on in his career. It was assumed that McIntyre would be moving onto the main roster soon, however it seems that he may have injured his bicep during his failed title defence at NXT TakeOver: WarGames.

In Case You Didn't Know...

NXT TakeOver: WarGames took place on November 18th, with Drew McIntyre defending his title against the newly invigorated Andrade "Cien" Almas. Cien had been on fire since his new manager, Zelina Vega, took him under her wing. At WarGames, Almas upset the Sinister Scotsman, and captured the NXT title, becoming the first Latino-born NXT champion.

The Heart of the Matter

Near the end of the match, Almas sets McIntyre up for a top rope DDT. While hitting the move, McIntyre seems to hold onto the ropes a little too long, causing some strain on his arm. After the pin, McIntyre is clearly seen holding his left arm in pain.

Later on in the night after WarGames was over, Triple H was interviewed on Facebook Live by Cathy Kelly, where he stated that McIntyre had possibly "injured his bicep." McIntyre will have an MRI Monday morning to find out just how bad the damage is. HHH and Cathy Kelly discuss McIntyre's possible injury around the 9:00 mark.

What's Next?

Andrade will surely celebrate his title win in the near future, possibly on the November 29th episode of NXT, as the one prior will be showing matches taped before Takeover tonight. The November 22nd episode will show Ruby Riot taking on Sonya Deville and UK Champion Pete Dunne defending his title against Johnny Gargano.

Author's Take

This injury couldn't come at a worse time for McIntyre. The former champion was riding a pretty strong wave of momentum, and it seemed that he was on his way to the main roster sooner rather than later. We're only a few months away from the Royal Rumble, so it's possible that he might make his return to the main roster then. WWE does seem to bring up one or two NXT superstars for the Rumble each year, so it wouldn't have been too shocking to see McIntyre show up and have an impressive showing his first night back on the main roster. This is all speculation, of course.

We'll have to see what the reports are after his MRI on Monday. Hopefully the injury isn't as severe as they believe it to be. Stay tuned to Sportskeeda as we bring you more coverage on this story.
