Drew McIntyre is a former NXT and Intercontinental Champion but has his eyes on the big prize

What's the story?

After an electrifying reception at his Insane Championship Wrestling Hall of Fame induction, Drew McIntyre spoke to Billy Kirkwood and made some pretty bold claims - he has vowed to be the first ever Scottish WWE Champion.

In case you didn't know...

Drew McIntyre was ICW's inaugural Heavyweight Champion and was honored for his services to the Glasgow-based promotion this week - and spoke about how Triple H allowed him to be there in person to accept the award.

ICW was the first place McIntyre appeared after his release from WWE the first time around, and he made an incredible impact there before going on to take the independent world by storm.

Several WWE talents have wrestled in an ICW ring, notably Kurt Angle, Finn Balor, War Machine, Aleister Black, Noam Dar and there have even been appearances from alumni such as Mick Foley, Rob Van Dam, and Rey Mysterio.

The heart of the matter

Well, the former NXT Champion returned to ICW to be inducted into the Hall of Fame under very different circumstances this time around.

He's a contracted WWE Superstar and was NXT Champion until Andrade Cien Almas beat the Scotsman in a match which saw the NXT man sidelined with a torn bicep.

ICW is also a very different place since his last appearance - with the company seemingly boasting some kind of working relationship with WWE that has seen Finn Balor return while contracted to WWE, the WWE United Kingdom Championship defended at an Insane Championship Wrestling Show, and even Triple H standing in an ICW ring and cutting a promo in Cardiff!

Well, in footage posted by WWE themselves and shared by ICW, Drew McIntyre delivered an emotional interview backstage immediately after his induction where he vowed to be the first ever Scottish WWE Champion.

What's next?

Drew McIntyre joined Carmel Jacobs to be only the second inductee into ICW's Hall of Fame. While he's still on the shelf with a torn bicep, you can expect that he'll return to NXT with a bang when he recovers - whether it be on NXT or the main roster.

Author's take

Well, as a Scotsman myself, I may be a little bit biased - but I think Drew McIntyre is the real deal and could be an immense talent and an incredible heel if moved up to the main roster upon his return. He's a giant man with all the ability in the world, and he's a much more mature Superstar than he was when he was part of 3MB or known as The Chosen One.

Whether it's on NXT, RAW or SmackDown, I can't wait for McIntyre to return.
