What’s the story?

On the recent, Edge and Christian Pod of Awesomeness episode, former WWE Tag Team Champions Edge and Christian shared their thoughts regarding the recent WWE releases and also commented on NXT superstar Lio Rush’s controversial tweet.

In case you didn’t know…

Earlier this year, in the month of October WWE, released three superstars from the company in the form of Emma, Summer Rae, and former WWE Tag Team Champion Darren Young.

Emma was a part of the WWE for almost six years, since making her debut for the company in 2011 under WWE’s developmental territory of FCW. Since then she has been an influential part of the company taking part in the NXT Women’s Championship tournament in 2012, where she managed to reach the final but eventually fell short after losing to Paige. Emma has also been a huge part of the main-roster where her last match was against “The Empress of Tomorrow” Asuka, which ended in a defeat.

On the other hand, Darren Young and Summer Rae have also been working for WWE for a long time. Young is a former Nexus member, as well as is a former Tag Team Champion alongside Titus O’Neil. Meanwhile, Summer Rae has been sidelined due to injuries for well over a year before being released on 29th October.

Meanwhile, NXT’s latest acquisition Lio Rush weighed in on Emma’s release by making a controversial tweet via his official Twitter account. The tweet apparently has bought a lot of heat on Rush but the 22-year-old has apologized for his actions.

The heart of the matter

On the latest episode of the E&C podcast former WWE World Champion Christian said that he is hoping the best for anyone that is involved in this situation. Christian stated that there is not really much to say regarding the WWE releases and hopes the best for Emma, Summer, and Young as well. “Captain Charisma” then added that if they truly love wrestling then they will continue to push forward and will start working for other various promotions.

Christian then used the example of current NXT Champion Drew McIntyre who got released from the WWE after a miserable first stint with the company, but, Christian thinks that McIntyre would go on to improve himself by competing for various Independent promotions around the globe and came back stronger and better to the WWE.

“The Rated R Superstar” Edge would then give this take on the situation and state that the firings were related to WWE’s business standpoint and said that he doesn’t necessarily know the actual reason behind the three superstars being released.

Edge added that Emma did not get the right opportunities in the company to showcase her talent and thinks that the Aussie superstar is someone who is certainly capable of delivering in big matches, based on her performance against Paige at the first NXT Women’s Championship match.

Talking about Rush's tweer, Christian stated that Rush’s tweet was insensitive and believes that the former CZW World Champion tried to be funny but ended up making a big mistake which he probably regrets. Christian also thinks that people should think twice before posting or tweeting out something on the social media.

Read it over a couple of times and be like, ‘what am I send out into the internet?’ because once it’s out there, it’s out there. Use your head. That’s all you have to do. Use some common sense.”- Christian stated regarding the proper use of social media.

Edge would then go on to add that talent and brains always don’t go hand-in-hand, but also claims that he doesn’t know anything about Rush. The former WWE Champion also thinks that irrespective of the consequences, one should never mock someone else’s livelihood.

What’s next?

As for Emma, Summer Rae, and Darren Young, it’ll be interesting to note where they head towards next. Emma has already stated that she will start taking Independent bookings from now on. As for Young, there is still no word on whether he will continue to wrestle on the indies or not. Summer Rae seems like she is done with wrestling overall.

On the other hand, Lio Rush still continues to be a part of the current NXT roster despite making a silly mistake on Twitter a few weeks earlier.

Author’s Take

Personally, I agree with both Christian and Edge here as I think Emma was not given the right opportunity in the WWE to showcase her talents and I certainly hope she gets to shine on the Indies.

As for Lio Rush, I agree with the former Tag Team Champions once again and I think Rush made a very insensitive joke.
