What’s the story?

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Edge revealed the mantra to succeed in WWE.

Edge asserted that in order to be successful in WWE, a Superstar has to communicate closely with Vince McMahon and adequately express what they wish to bring to the table for the company.

In case you didn’t know…

Edge served as an important star for the WWE alongside Batista and John Cena throughout the 2000s.

The Rated-R Superstar always enjoyed a great reputation as a company man in WWE, until he retired from the sport owing to injuries.

The heart of the matter

Edge explained that in order to succeed in WWE, one has to communicate adequately with the boss—

“That’s (communicating with Vince McMahon) not politicking, that’s getting to know each other and allowing him to know what type of person he is going to invest this massive machine in. How can he do that unless he has some sense of who you are as a person, and not just as a performer?”
“It happened organically with us. When I had points I felt very strongly on, I went to him.”

Furthermore, Edge elucidated that Vince McMahon gradually saw how the former stood up for what he believed in, and always owned up to his mistakes. Edge added that he never looked for a pat on the back when he was right either and that in turn showed Vince how dedicated the former is to the pro-wrestling industry.

What’s next?

Edge has retired from the sport of professional wrestling and was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame.

The former World Heavyweight Champion still follows the sport; encouraging younger talent to make it to the big leagues.

Author’s take

Edge is spot-on as regards the necessity of better communication in order to succeed at the highest levels of this sport.

Newer talent needs to heed Edge’s advice and be more at hand when it comes to pitching business ideas to WWE head honcho Vince McMahon.
