WWE News: Former Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann released by WWE

Rich Swann has been released

WWE has today come to terms on the release of Rich Swann, stating that both WWE and the former Cruiserweight Champion have "mutually" agreed to part ways.

Well, in case you didn't know, Rich Swann was arrested last year on charges of battery and kidnapping/false imprisonment of his wife, professional wrestler Su Yung, but had recently been cleared of all charges.

Before his arrest, Swann was scheduled for a Cruiserweight Championship rematch and many thought he may be able to come back after being cleared of the charges, especially given the new look of 205 Live with a tournament that will culminate in the crowning of a new Cruiserweight Champion after Enzo Amore's release lead to the belt being vacated.

However, WWE took to Twitter to confirm the news that the CWC competitor and former Champion would not be returning to 205 Live as he is no longer part of the company, on Rich Swann's 27th birthday.

Just a matter of weeks ago, Rich Swann's lawyer Ian Pickens released a statement saying that they were hopeful of a WWE return.

We are hopeful that with the dismissal of these charges Mr. Swann will be able to return to the WWE and our firm will do everything we can to assist him in returning to the ring. Thank you.

Rich Swann had a short run with Sasha Banks

It will be very interesting to see where Rich Swann goes from here. There's no doubt he has the character and in-ring ability to be a success pretty much anywhere in the world when it comes to wrestling, as he was in his short spell in WWE that saw him win the Cruiserweight Championship and even dance in the ring with Sasha Banks on WWE RAW after tagging with her against Noam Dar and Alicia Fox.

While being cleared of all charges, there's no doubt that the incident undoubtedly halted Rich Swann's career - and it seems like both parties believed it would be best for him not to come back straight away. It should be noted that WWE wished Swann the best in all of his future endeavors - a gesture not granted to Enzo Amore on his release - so the door may even be open for a return in the future.
