What's the story?
WWE commentator Corey Graves recently appeared on Lilian Garcia's "Chasing Glory" podcast, and talked about a variety of topics.
Graves talked about the moment when Triple H informed him that his in-ring career was over, adding that he almost burst into tears upon hearing the news.
In case you didn't know...
Corey Graves signed a developmental contract with WWE in 2011 and went on to wrestle in Florida Championship Wrestling, and then NXT. In 2014, Graves wrestled in a 6-Man tag team match, teaming up with The Ascension to take on the trio of Sami Zayn and The Usos.
Following the match, he suffered a concussion, which took him out of action for months. He made his way back to the squared circle in December, but shocked the NXT fans by announcing that his in-ring career was over.
Graves wasn't let go though, and he began a new NXT stint as a commentator. Ever since, Graves has gone on to become a mainstay in WWE and calls the action on both brands.

The heart of the matter
While talking with Garcia, Graves touched upon the moment when he was informed by WWE COO Triple H about his wrestling career coming to an end.
He recalled that he was at the WWE Performance Center, and so was Triple H. The doctors had told him that they were still waiting for a few test results to come, and no one was giving him a straight answer.
Graves then went to talk with Triple H, who was working out. He asked him whether he had any updates for him regarding his recovery, to which Triple H replied by stating that he was expecting the worst.
Graves added that Triple H didn't want to lie to him and he respected him for that, but the revelation came as a shock to him, and he felt as if he would burst into tears at any moment.
I kind of caught him off guard, so he didn't have a gentle way of telling me, he was just like, 'yeah, I would expect the worst.' I couldn't breathe. I felt like I was going to burst into tears. I didn't want to cry in front of anybody else, so I made a beeline out of the gym up into the locker room. William Regal was in there. He was standing there, and I walked in, and I broke down. I told him, and all he did was hug me. He was there for me and counselled me as best as he could.

Thankfully, Graves' exceptional talking skills helped him bag a job with WWE as a commentator and here's hoping that he goes on to have a long and fulfilling career behind the announcing desk.
