WWE News: Ryback claims responsibility for the 'Yep Yep Yep' movement

Did Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn steal 'Yep Yep Yep' from a former WWE Superstar?
Did Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn steal 'Yep Yep Yep' from a former WWE Superstar?

What's the story?

On SmackDown LIVE Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn paid homage to Daniel Bryan and his occupation of RAW by starting the 'Yep Yep Yep' movement in an attempt to occupy SmackDown LIVE in protest against Commissioner Shane McMahon's tyranny, however one former WWE Superstar claims to have started the 'Yep Yep Yep' movement several years beforehand.

In case you didn't know...

This isn't the first thing that Ryback has taken credit for in the WWE as the former Superstar also alleges that he invented the Shield's iconic Triple-Powerbomb suggesting to Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins as a move that they should do.

Other claims from Ryback about his time in the WWE were that he was supposed to wrestle Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania and that he pitched an idea to Vince McMahon about going away, learning MMA and joining UFC, and then returning to face Brock Lesnar in a match that would break records.

The heart of the matter

That's right folks; before he was Ryback he was Skip Sheffield, and he used to run around NXT sporting a cowboy hat and saying 'Yep Yep Yep' all the way until he joined and left Nexus and became the Ryback that we all know and.... know.

However, one could argue that Skip Sheffield was this goofy simple character who said 'Yep Yep Yep' as his own catchphrase, whilst the 'Yep Yep Yep' movement on SmackDown LIVE is just that, a movement, and are two different things, but who am I to argue against 'The Big Guy?'

What's next?

Whilst the 'Yep Yep Yep' movement just seemed like a good way to tie Daniel Bryan's 'Yes' movement in occupying RAW into the current SmackDown power struggle that's taking place between Shane McMahon and Bryan with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in the middle of it, the WWE has actually released t-shirts, so it might be here to stay.

Author's take

I need to cut Ryback some slack here, even though he did once claim he was supposed to squash AJ Styles at Wrestlemania 32, as he's clearly being a bit tongue-in-cheek here and not actually claiming that he invented the 'Yep Yep Yep' movement. Although it is sometimes hard to tell with Ryback.
