What’s the Story?

Former Universal Champion Goldberg was officially announced by WWE for the 2018 Hall of Fame.

In Case You Didn’t Know

It has been heavily rumored for months that the WCW legend would be heading into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. Though a former WWE superstar, the bulk of Goldberg’s legacy was made in WCW during his legendary undefeated streak.

The Heart of the Matter

The former World Champion began his career in professional wrestling with WCW when he began training at the WCW Power Plant in 1996. Goldberg’s in-ring debut occurred on September 22, 1997, and was the start to his unbelievable Undefeated Streak.

Goldberg defeated a variety of big stars during his Undefeated Streak including “ Mr Perfect” Curt Henning, Raven, Sting, Big Show as The Giant, Scott Hall, and Hollywood Hulk Hogan before The Streak came to an end against Kevin Nash with interference from Scott Hall at Starrcade 1998.

Goldberg would capture the WCW World Tag Team Championships, the United States Championship, and the World Heavyweight Championship before WCW was sold to Vince McMahon in 2001.

The former World Heavyweight Champion would finally enter a WWE ring in 2003 where would go on to capture WWE’s version of the World Heavyweight Championship before dropping it back to Triple H.

Goldberg’s last match in WWE was a boring slugfest against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 20 until his recent return in 2016 which saw Goldberg defeat his former rival and become the third Universal Champion in WWE History.

The last big WCW superstar to enter the WWE Hall of Fame was Diamond Dallas Page in 2017 who had a legendary match against Goldberg for the World Heavyweight Championship at Halloween Havoc 1998.

What’s Next?

Other names rumored for the 2018 Hall of Fame Class were the late Bam Bam Bigelow, Ivory, Kid Rock in the Celebrity Wing, and The Dudley Boyz.

With Goldberg being confirmed for the Hall of Fame, speculation regarding the other names will grow.
