WWE News: Goldberg on how his WWE comeback affected his family

Goldberg returned to WWE in 2016

What’s the story?

Former WWE Universal Champion Goldberg commented on how his wrestling comeback affected his family. The former WCW star spoke about the issue during his recent appearance on Eric Bischoff’s podcast.

In case you didn’t know...

Goldberg’s WWE return was a successful one from an in-ring standpoint, despite only competing for less than 10 minutes throughout the run. The former WCW Champion captured the Universal Title from Kevin Owens at Fastlane, which took place just a few months after Goldberg defeated long-time rival Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series in Toronto.

The heart of the matter

Goldberg spoke out about the issue regarding his family, as seen in the following quotes.

“To be able to do this for my wife and my son who always heard about it but never could say they were there in that time. They could never understand how much fun it could be. As a father, you know exactly what I am talking about, to get my son in that ring with that title.

To go to his school and see how proud he was when I was standing up in front of the class. Those things are immeasurable. You can’t put a price on them. Granted I wouldn’t have come back if they had paid me $12 a match but that’s not why I went back. It was a combination of a lot of things. Just as important was the conversation I had with my wife when it all went down.”

What’s next?

Following Goldberg’s speech on the Raw Talk after Mania, it’s unknown whether or not he’ll return to the company in the near future. A lot of fans feel as if he strongly hinted at coming back for another match, with the most anticipated bout in question probably being a clash with Roman Reigns. Of course, this is all speculation, and Goldberg could be happy enough with the idea of retirement.

Author’s take

The inclusion of Goldberg’s family into his latest WWE run was slightly awkward at times. However, it was great to see how much passion he had for his wife and son. In the end, they probably did enhance the overall quality of his six-month tenure, with his farewell speech being one of the more emotional moments of WrestleMania week in Orlando.
