WWE Rumors: Golden Truth set to challenge The Hardy Boyz on Raw

The Hardy Boyz might face Golden Truth on May 1, 2017

What’s the story?

As reported by Ringside News, Golden Truth seems set to challenge The Hardy Boyz tonight on Monday Night Raw. The two teams were involved in a backstage segment together on the Payback pre-show, with the Hardy Boyz going on to retain their Raw Tag Team Championships against Sheamus & Cesaro later in the night.

In case you didn’t know...

Golden Truth has been floundering as a lower mid card act for a long time now, which isn’t surprising when you consider the nature of their tag team gimmick. Many fans have been eager to see them turn heel in order to squeeze the last bit of juice they have left out of them; however, WWE seems more intent on keeping them as a comedy act for the time being.

The heart of the matter

As we saw last night during the pre-show, Goldust and R-Truth informed Matt and Jeff that they were going to visit Kurt Angle and issue a challenge to whoever won the Raw Tag Team Championship bout later in the night. Courtesy of The Hardy Boyz retaining, it appears as if the match is indeed scheduled to take place on Monday Night Raw tonight.

What’s next?

We’ll wait and see how things transpire tonight as the Golden Truth look set to try and force their way into the Tag Title picture. It doesn’t seem likely that they’ll come away with the victory, but perhaps this match could be the catalyst for the beginning of the Broken Matt turn that we’re all anticipating. Then again, it could be nothing more than a way to fill up some time on the show.

Author’s take

This seemed random last night, and it still does now less than 24 hours on. It’s great that they’re setting things up in advance, but they’ll have to do some serious work if they want people to buy into Golden Truth as a serious threat. Unfortunately, this is the hand they’ve been dealt after the unfortunate injury that has halted the progress of The Revival.
