From the WWE Rumor Mill: Matt Hardy could be on the verge of winning the Broken Hardy trademark

What's the story?

WrestlingNews.co is reporting on an update of Matt Hardy's quest to obtain the Broken Hardy trademark to use in the WWE. The publishing of this trademark will occur in December; which would give Matt control over the gimmick.

In case you didn't know...

The Broken Hardy gimmick started in 2016 while Matt and Jeff were a part of Impact Wrestling. Matt's obsession to defeat Jeff eventually drove him mad and turned him into the broken villain we all know and love.

The heart of the matter

The trademark's publishing date is December 19th and from that point forward any parties that wish to dispute the claim will have 30 days to do so. The main goal is to own the intellectual property, and obtaining the trademark is a good step towards Matt's overall goal.

Matt and Jeff Hardy made a surprise return to the WWE at WrestleMania this past April in Orlando. They would win the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships in a ladder match on that night.

When they returned, it was mainly the old Hardy Boyz gimmick for Matt as there was a legal struggle with Anthem. Over time, Matt has progressively added the broken characteristics to his character, and with Jeff out for several months due to injury, obtaining the trademark could help Matt out tremendously while he's in singles competition.

What's next?

Next up for the WWE is Survivor Series this Sunday live from Houston, Texas. Unfortunately, Matt is not on the card unless something drastically changes at this point.

This is definitely great news as the WWE Universe deserves to see Broken Matt Hardy DELETE his opponents and make them OBSOLETE.

He's been more and more broken over the past few months, and to see a full transformation would make for some great storylines down the road.
