The health situation with Ric Flair was really delicate

What’s the story?

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler, who filled in for Booker T at the commentary desk on this week’s RAW, talked about the recent health issues concerning his good friend Ric Flair on his podcast. Lawler revealed that Flair was given only a 20% chance of surviving by the doctors, highlighting how scary the situation regarding the Nature Boy’s health was.

In case you didn’t know…

Flair was hospitalized after a series of health complications, which were initially thought to have stemmed from his heart problems and were later attributed to his colon. His fiancée, Wendy Barlow, clarified that the problems were not at all related to his heart or colon. She issued a statement saying that the issues were related to his bowel, which led to a surgery where the 16-time World Champion lost a part of his bowel.

Barlow also stated that the recovery was ‘miraculous’. Flair was put into a medically induced coma because of this condition. Names like Hulk Hogan and daughter Charlotte Flair have now revealed that The Nature Boy is now feeling much better, but there is a long road to recovery ahead.

The heart of the matter

Lawler commented on the condition of the two-time WWE Hall of Famer in a recent edition of Dining with the King, revealing how delicate the situation was. He stated:

“Apparently it was really a touch and go situation, they explained to him [Ricky Steamboat], and when the Nature Boy had that first surgery, the doctors said that Ric had a 20% chance of survival of making it through that surgery. But we all know that he did pull through. And I heard yesterday, he’s already cutting promos on nurses.”

It looks like Ric Flair's condition is improving slowly, but there is a now a sense of relief in the wrestling community.

What’s next?

Charlotte Flair, who was attending to Flair and was absent from the past two Smackdown television tapings, gave an update on her dad’s condition in an interview with Renee Young. She said that Flair was out of immediate danger but emphasized that he had a long road ahead which included plenty of rehabilitation and recovery.

Author’s take

It's really scary to know that he only had a 20% chance of making it, but I'm really glad to hear the positive news that he is out of immediate danger. I hope he makes a great recovery like only the Nature Boy can and I hope we can see him elbow-dropping his blazer again. Get well soon, Naitch!
