WWE News: John Cena and Nikki Bella announce break-up

A
A year after the proposal, Cena-Bella are no more

What's the story?

Last year, John Cena proposed to his longtime girlfriend Nikki Bella. After the couple defeated Miz and Maryse in a tag team match at WrestleMania 33, Nikki Bella said yes, and the two were engaged on the grandest stage of them all. Sadly, though, it seems that their relationship wouldn't last.

In case you didn't know...

John Cena and Nikki Bella's romantic lives have been documented on the E! Network since Total Divas began. They'd been dating for six years up to this point, but their personal issues were shown on camera for everyone to see.

Namely, Nikki Bella wanted to get married and have children. John Cena, on the other hand, didn't. So while many people saw the proposal coming last year, a few months beforehand, no one would've guessed it. The duo is also on the Total Divas spinoff Total Bellas, where they share the screen with Nikki's sister, Brie Bella, and her family, Daniel Bryan and their daughter Birdy Joe.

The heart of the matter

Cena and Nikki revealed to Us Weekly that they had officially called off their engagement and had gone their separate ways.

While the decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives.

Nikki Bella would also announce the split on her Instagram page.

Cena posted this to his Twitter account as well.

What's next?

John Cena hasn't been seen since his loss to the Undertaker at WrestleMania 34, and it's unknown when he will return. Nikki has been absent from WWE TV since the Women's Royal Rumble Match earlier this year. Both of them are working on other projects at the moment.

Author's take

It's sad to see a longstanding couple like Cena and Nikki Bella break up. The two seemed like a pretty great match. We here at Sportskeeda would like to give our condolences to them both and wish them the best.
