WWE News: John Cena finally comments on being potentially removed from the Royal Rumble match

Cena may still show up at the Rumble...

What's the story?

John Cena conspicuously suffered an injury on Raw last week that has put his Royal Rumble appearance in jeopardy. The ankle injury, which is said to be kayfabe, is expected to keep the Cenation leader on the sidelines for the first major PPV of 2019.

Cena took to Twitter to comment on the 'setback' and put out a predictable tweet that was in coherence with his never-give-up mantra.

In case you didn't know...

The news about Cena aggravating an existing injury was announced by WWE in the hours prior to this week's RAW. However, there's more to the story than meets the eye.

The face that runs the place was earmarked as Lars Sullivan's first opponent on the main roster as the NXT superstar was originally scheduled to show up a few weeks ago to attack the 16-time WWE Champion. Ideally, this would have kicked off a feud that could have lasted up until WrestleMania, though Sullivan underwent an unfortunate nervous breakdown and as a result, was immediately sent home.

WWE Creative were left with no option but to improvise the angle, effectively writing Cena off TV with an ankle injury. It should be noted that the Franchise Player wasn't even in attendance on the latest edition of RAW and as of this writing, it seems like the WWE may have to do without its most bankable name at the Royal Rumble.

But...

The heart of the matter

Cena is all about overcoming the odds and if his most recent tweet is anything to go by, then we should all brace ourselves for a surprise return during the Men's Royal Rumble match this Sunday.

Classic Cena, eh?

What's next?

Cena's injury is a kayfabe one as reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider and the former WWE Champion is expected to resume his filming schedule on February 4th, which will end on April 1st.

WWE would certainly want to set up a match for the free agent, but are alarmingly running out of fresh opponents and innovative ideas. Whether Sullivan makes the jump to the main roster in due time for a programme is yet to be seen, but the pressing question is: Will Cena make it to the Rumble this weekend?
