From the WWE Rumor Mill:  John Cena no longer in the running for a major movie role

John Cena's last match for a while was against Roman Reigns at No Mercy last month...

What's the story?

ProWrestling.com is reporting on a story regarding the Hollywood future for 16-time world champion John Cena. Though there are several major movies on Cena's plate, the Shazam movie is not one of them.

In case you didn't know...

Shazam is a character in the DC Comics world; that was first introduced by Fawcett Comics in 1940. DC would revive the character in 1972 and continues to appear in comic books to this day.

The main story revolves around an ancient Egyptian wizard who gives his powers to a man named Billy to carry on the legacy of fighting evil.

The heart of the matter...

The pro wrestling world was buzzing at the prospects of John Cena playing the title role in the movie, as it was also being rumored that The Rock would play the main villain of the series, Black Adam. Now it seems like neither will be in this movie, but The Rock is still rumored to appear in a standalone Black Adam movie down the road.

The report stated that Cena met with the film's director last week and he informed John that he was no longer in the running for the movie's title role. While this isn't the best news for Cena, he will have starring roles in three major upcoming movies: Transformers: Bumblebee, The Pact, and Daddy's Home 2.

What's next?

John Cena's Hollywood schedule will keep him away from the WWE for an extended amount of time off following the loss to Roman Reigns at No Mercy. It is unknown when Cena will make his return to the WWE, but during the build-up of the Royal Rumble is a good guess.

Author's take?

Being a DC Comics fan, seeing John Cena and The Rock potentially be on opposite sides for a movie definitely interested me. The prospects of having two of the WWE's top men over the past 20 years headline a major motion picture would have created huge headlines.

I have no doubt that someday there will be a director would want to have The Rock opposite John Cena for a movie, Shazam is not going to be that movie though.
