WWE News: John Cena on retiring from wrestling

John Cena promises to be involved with WWE even after he retires from the ring.

What’s the story?

In a recent interview with Fox News, John Cena spoke on a myriad of issues ranging from potentially retiring from wrestling, his relationship with Nikki Bella, filming The Wall, his love for WWE and more.

In case you didn’t know...

John Cena has competed as a professional wrestler since 1999 and made his WWE main roster debut in 2002, and would go on to become a 16-time world champion in the sport - a record that’s tied with all-time-great Ric Flair.

The 40-year old Superstar most recently competed at Wrestlemania 33, where he teamed up with Nikki Bella and defeated the Miz and Maryse. Cena followed up the victory with a marriage proposal to Nikki in front of the 75,000+ fans at Mania, to which she said yes.

The heart of the matter:

Cena is on a hiatus from WWE owing to his movie obligations in regards to the aforementioned highly-publicized film The Wall, besides working on Daddy’s Home 2, and is not expected to return before June. Here’s what the Leader of the Cenation had to say when probed about retirement-

“As far as the performance level it’s definitely a business for the young and I am on the older side of young but I don’t think I’ll ever not be involved with the WWE. They will have to tell me that they no longer need my services because it is my home.”

Furthermore, speaking about his relationship and Mania proposal to Nikki Bella, he added-

“That was the most nervous I have ever been in my entire life and not only was I worried about her response but I was worried about the reaction of the 75,000 people of the Camping World Stadium. I didn’t know that they would react in such a positive way, and I’m forever indebted to our fans for being able to allow me to celebrate the greatest moment of my life.”

Besides, Cena noted that even if he were to retire from in-ring competition, he would most definitely be involved in some capacity or other with the WWE.

What’s next?

As we had previously reported, John Cena will return to WWE in mid-June, with the US-release of The Wall scheduled for May 12th.

Fans can also catch the Superstar on Total Bellas and Total Divas.

Author’s take:

Love him or hate him, John Cena is a bonafide megastar. The man is extremely charismatic and knows how to draw a reaction from the WWE Universe each and every time he steps foot inside the squared-circle.

It would be interesting to see whether he’ll still perform for his current brand SmackDown, or be shifted to RAW when he returns in the month of June.
