During an interaction with Fox Sports, WWE superstar John Cena opened up about why he decided to propose to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania 33 and said that it was a ‘big moment’ for him.
In case you didn’t know...
Cena and Bella competed against and defeated The Miz and Maryse in a mixed tag team match at WrestleMania 33. After the match, the erstwhile ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ popped the question to Bella in the most romantic way possible.
Needless to say, Bella was thrilled by this and accepted the proposal in a heartbeat.
The heart of the matter
Speaking to Fox Sports, Cena said that he decided to pop the question at WrestleMania 33 as he considers the WWE Universe to be his family.
“It was a very public manner but the WWE is my home and I consider the WWE Universe to be my family and that was a big big moment in my life and I guess I just wanted to share it with my family,” he said.
Moreover, Cena revealed that he was pretty nervous about the whole thing as he didn’t know how the fans would react to it. He added that he was grateful to the fans in attendance for helping him celebrate the greatest moment of his life.
Interestingly, ‘The Champ’ also confirmed that he has a wedding date in mind. However, he did not give out any specific details. On the topic, he said that things are pretty much on ‘ground floor’ at present.
What’s next?
Cena and Bella have not appeared on WWE programming since WrestleMania 33. However, it is a matter of time before they return. Once that happens, it will be worth watching how they are utilised.

John Cena and Nikki Bella do make a good couple onscreen as well as in real life. As such, once the two are back, the WWE could pair them onscreen once again. Bella could serve as Cena’s manager and also participate in mixed tag matches.
