What’s the story?

WWE superstar John Cena quoted legendary Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid on his latest Instagram post. Cena, known for his quirky posts on the Social Media platform posted a quote by Dravid about playing for pride and respect. You can see Cena’s post below:

In case you didn't know…

The Cenation leader’s last appearance in the WWE came at Survivor Series last month. Cena was part of Team SmackDown in the five-on-five traditional elimination match.

Cena was eliminated halfway through the match by Kurt Angle and his SmackDown team went on to lose the match as well. His appearance at Survivor Series was labelled by fans as random, thrown together and lacklustre, which is true. His presence in the match was virtually unfelt.

The heart of the matter

The latest post from John Cena on Instagram featured a quote from former Indian Cricketer Rahul Dravid along with a picture of ‘The Wall’.

“You don’t play for revenge, you play for respect and pride” The quote read.

The exact meaning of Cena’s post, just like his previous ones on Instagram, is not clear but the fact that he shared Dravid’s quote and a photo is something to be celebrated for the WWE fans in India.

What’s next?

John Cena is expected to face Roman Reigns for the Intercontinental championship this month. The match is currently advertised for WWE’s Live Event in Madison Square Garden on December 26th.

According to rumours, this is supposed to be a one-off showdown for the show. Cena and Reigns had faced off back at No Mercy where Reigns went home with a win.

Author’s take

For the 90’s kids that grew up in India, John Cena and Rahul Dravid were probably two childhood heroes. Personally, it was good to see both names crossing paths even though it doesn’t mean anything in the longer run.

As Cena’s character revolves a lot around respect and pride, it was an apt quote to be shared by him irrespective of the source.
