What's the story?
We saw the return of John Cena to television on the first episode of SmackDown Live in 2019. Cena called out any man from the back to come and face him, and his challenge was answered by 'The Man'.
The two of them would team up and beat Andrade 'Cien' Almas and Zelina Vega. John Cena reacted to Becky Lynch throwing him out of the ring to pick up the big win, in an exclusive WWE video.
In case you didn't know...
John Cena's Hollywood career has taken off and he's only a part time WWE superstar, right now. While he's been gone, Becky Lynch's popularity has simply soared through the roof, making her the hottest superstar in the company.
Cena seemed to have the match won but Lynch tossed him outside the ring before he could score the pin. Zelina Vega rolled her over to score the victory but Lynch made her tap out. Becky Lynch would not shake John Cena's hand after the match, doing the 'you can't see me' pose on the ramp.
The heart of the matter
John Cena had the following to say about teaming up with Becky Lynch:
When Becky Lynch came out there and not only staked her claim, but said listen, if I got to go through you to get it, I'll get it done. When I looked into her eyes, I knew she meant it. And that's very rare. I hope the other WWE superstars, regardless of gender were paying attention to the attitude of Becky Lynch. Because sometimes, you've got to announce your presence with authority.
Would he have done the same thing? Well, not anymore:
It's not the way I do things sometimes, but that's the way a young John Cena would have done things for sure. And that's why even with all the stuff that happened out there, I thought I was doing good and then I ended up getting thrown out of the ring, I would have done the same thing. I know how tough it is to be overlooked. I know how tough it is to do your best every night and not be noticed. And then, finally for something to happen inside you where you feel comfortable.
What's next?
For Becky Lynch, the only way is up, after the vote of confidence from John Cena. Could she become the next Cena? We'll have to wait and find out, won't we?
