In an interview with Metro to promote his upcoming film, The Wall, WWE superstar John Cena discussed how he is not being allowed to act and wrestle at the same time and the ever-increasing respect for wrestling.
In case you didn’t know…
John Cena’s last appearance inside a WWE ring came at this year’s WrestleMania where he teamed up with his real-life girlfriend Nikki Bella to take on The Miz and his wife Maryse in an inter-gender tag team match.
After they defeated ‘The It Couple of the WWE’ by pinfall, Cena got on the mic and proposed to Nikki, which she joyfully accepted. Both of them have since been on a hiatus from wrestling action.
The heart of the matter
‘The Cenation Leader’ claimed that he wants to wrestle and act at the same time but people involved in the movie business do not allow him to do so. Cena added that he likes to work outside the WWE mainly because it increases awareness among people about the business. This is what he had to say:
“I would do both at the same time, but the movie guys are a little weird with their insurance. They don’t want me to go smashing my face up. I’m excited for all the opportunities outside the WWE ring, only because it raises awareness of the WWE.”
Talking about the growing respect for the wrestling business, Cena asserted that both mainstream sports and entertainment are adopting the methods that the WWE uses. He admitted that he is pleased to see this and thinks it is the reason behind people respecting them.
The 16-time world champion was quoted as saying this:
“More and more. And a lot of our methods of entertainment are being adopted by both mainstream sports and mainstream entertainment. I’m very happy to see it, and I think that’s what leading to more understanding of what we do and respecting it.”
What next?
While there are some rumours suggesting that John Cena will be making special appearances on SmackDown Live every now and then, there is no clarity about when he will be returning to wrestling action again.

Time and again, John Cena has made claims about how he will not be leaving the WWE for films like The Rock did. However, it will be interesting to see if he sings a different tune after he has some box office success under his belt.
