What's the story?
John Cena had an interview recently with Sports Illustrated during the Nickelodeon Upfronts (a presentation of what's upcoming for the network). He discussed making history at Fastlane, but during the interview, Cena revealed that he wouldn't mind missing WrestleMania this year.

Speaking of Nickelodeon, Sportskeeda reported earlier today that a photo surfaced of John Cena on Twitter showing him auditioning to be the host for the popular 1990s children's show Blue's Clues.
The heart of the matter
Cena was asked about potentially making history this Sunday at WWE Fastlane. If he wins the Six-Pack Challenge to become the WWE Champion, he will surpass "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair for all-time world championship reigns in pro wrestling with 17. Cena would say the following on making history:
"Fastlane will be a special day if all goes well. I know I'm not supposed to speak about this, but going from two names to one name would be a pretty cool piece of conversation. I have all the respect in the world for Ric. We have a great rapport with each other, he was the first one to congratulate me when I won against AJ at the Rumble. It's looming, but this is the time where it may indeed happen."
Sports Illustrated then asked Cena about his future within the WWE and potentially missing WrestleMania (playing off of the notion that John Cena may not have a match at WrestleMania if he doesn't win the championship at Fastlane).
Cena stated that as long as his body holds up, he is going to be a WWE Superstar; however when it comes to WrestleMania this year, he wouldn't mind being absent with everything he has going on outside of the WWE.
What's next?
Cena heads to Columbus, Ohio on Sunday evening for WWE Fastlane where he will attempt to become a 17-time world champion. In order to do so, he'll have to defeat AJ Styles, Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, and Dolph Ziggler in a Six-Pack Challenge for the WWE Championship.

Obviously, the possibility of missing WrestleMania is a charade in my opinion as I fully expect John Cena to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania 34. I can understand why Cena wouldn't mind taking the year off though.
WrestleMania is a big commitment, it isn't just showing up for your 15-minute match and you're done. There are a lot of obligations that every WWE Superstar has during this crazy week.
