Kaitlyn is open to a return at the Royal Rumble

What’s the story?

In an interview with WSVN-TV Entertainment’s Chris Van Vliet, former WWE Superstar Kaitlyn opened up on a number of topics.

Kaitlyn revealed why she’s returning to professional wrestling, and the reason behind her not wrestling under the ring-name ‘Kaitlyn’. Besides, she also addressed whether she’d be partaking in the Women’s Royal Rumble, her thoughts on the Women’s Revolution in WWE, the terms on which she left WWE, and her relationship with AJ Lee.

In case you didn’t know…

Kaitlyn is a former WWE Divas Champion, who retired from the WWE and the sport of pro-wrestling back in 2014.

Kaitlyn, whose real name is Celeste Bonin, was involved in a highly-publicized divorce last year, and went public with her addiction issues, as well as a few business disputes she had to settle owing to the divorce.

The heart of the matter

Kaitlyn recalled that when she retired 4 years ago, she had no intention of returning to the WWE or wrestling in any organization. However, after a tumultuous 2017, and changes in her business and personal life, she returned to wrestling last year and although she was a tad rusty in the ring, she felt more purpose, structure and passionate about life again.

Additionally, Kaitlyn explained that she wrestles as Celeste Bonin and not as ‘Kaitlyn’, owing to the fact that the WWE owns the intellectual property rights to the name. Kaitlyn added that she hasn’t been called up to partake in the WWE Women’s Royal Rumble Match yet, however, there’s always a chance that WWE could send out the call a couple of days prior to the event; and in professional wrestling one must never say never.

Furthermore, Kaitlyn elucidated that she’s happy that the current WWE female talent are being accorded a significant amount of time on WWE programming. Kaitlyn continued that she was recently backstage at a SmackDown Live event in Florida, and the locker room today is much better than during her stint in WWE, as a few negative people caused tension back then.

Kaitlyn also reiterated that she parted ways with the WWE on good terms and simply intended to move on from pro-wrestling/sports-entertainment back then. Kaitlyn also spoke about her relationship with AJ Lee.

"Ya, we're still really close. I've taken a couple of trips out there to see her in Chicago. We talk about working on projects together all the time. Maybe one day our screenplay or something, who knows?"

What’s next?

Kaitlyn presently performs on the independent professional wrestling circuit. The WWE’s Royal Rumble PPV takes place on Sunday, January 28th and will feature a Men’s and Women’s Royal Rumble match among other matchups as well.

Several past WWE Superstars return as surprise entrants in the Rumble matches, and fans could indeed see Kaitlyn partake in the Women’s Royal Rumble match this weekend.

Author’s take

Kaitlyn is a brave young woman, who truly turned her life around in 2017.

While she may suffer from ring rust after being away from the sport for a few years, her ring psychology and presence is undeniable, and she’d be a welcome addition to the 30-Woman lineup at the Royal Rumble this weekend.
