What's the story?

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently took to Instagram and sent an incredibly heartfelt birthday wish to WWE veteran John Cena.

Angle stated that Cena earned his respect the moment they got into the ring for the very first time, and proceeded to call him "the greatest of all time".

In case you didn't know...

Kurt Angle is widely regarded as being one of the most decorated WWE athletes of all time. Additionally, he is the only Olympic gold medallist in WWE history. Angle was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017, and wrestled the final match of his career at WrestleMania 35 against Baron Corbin, in a losing effort.

This past week, John Cena celebrated his 42nd birthday. Angle was a little late on wishing the former WWE Champion, but made it up with a long and wholesome message addressed to Cena.

The heart of the matter

Angle posted a photo of himself and John Cena, that looks to be a match graphic from No Mercy 2003. Angle and Cena had squared off on the PPV, with Angle scoring a win over the Dr. of Thugonomics.

He went on to state that Cena pushed him to the limit even when he was a rookie, back in 2002. Angle added that Cena has been able to maintain his health for around 17 years, which is an incredibly tough thing to do. He finished off the message by referring to Cena as being the greatest WWE Superstar of all time, and wished him a belated happy birthday.

What's next?

John Cena's days as a WWE mainstay are over and he's looking forward to building a Hollywood career like his WWE counterparts, The Rock and Batista. Kurt Angle has previously stated that he wants to give back to WWE by taking on a backstage role in the near future.
