WWE News: Kurt Angle talks about dealing with broken necks, discusses wrestling again

The Olympic Gold Medalist shed light on his in-ring return and more, on Talk is Jericho

What’s the story?

Raw General Manager, Kurt Angle, was a guest on Talk is Jericho, where he discussed many topics including the physical damage he's sustained over his career and the possibility of him coming back to the ring.

In case you didn't know...

After an absence of eleven years, Kurt Angle made his comeback to the WWE as an inductee into the Hall of Fame (Class of 2017), appearing at WrestleMania the night after as well. He made his official WWE comeback as a General Manager of Raw, the following night.

Many fans have speculated that Angle might enter the ring for another run, with the current crop of talent. In his interview, Angle shed light on the same.

The heart of the matter

During the interview Kurt Angle spoke about why he never embarked on an MMA career, considering he had a legitimate combat background. Angle spoke at length about the damage he’s sustained because of the number of times he broke his neck, during his wrestling career.

‘Now I broke my neck before the Olympics in 1996. That didn’t do as much damage to my neck as when I started breaking it. I broke it 4 times in 2 ½ years in WWE. It kept happening over and over again. Discs slipping and sliding, blocking nerves, going into my spinal cord, I had to get them clipped out.’’

Regarding an in-ring return, Kurt said he believes the door is open but added that he thinks the company wants to ensure that he is clean. Furthermore, he added that he would have to pass standard medical testing and hopes that he’ll get to wrestle at some point.

What’s next?

Kurt Angle will continue his role as the General Manager of Raw for the moment. It will be interesting to gauge if Stephanie McMahon’s return in the future could open the door for a possible feud, and subsequently Kurt Angle's in-ring return.

Author’s take

Kurt Angle can have a variety of dream matches, with today’s WWE talent. I’m certain WWE realises this and sees money in a feud between Angle and the new crop of WWE superstars. Much like all of us, WWE must be praying for the best too. Let’s hope Kurt Angle remains clean and ends his career on a truly high note.
